Athletes do have a soft spot for tattoos, and tennis superstar Carlos Alcaraz is no different, with three tattoos of his own. He recently claimed his fourth Grand Slam crown with a successful title defence at Wimbledon, and he is currently enjoying a well-deserved break. The young Spaniard won the French Open as well prior to that.
Alcaraz first got the idea to get himself inked after his maiden Major triumph at the 2022 US Open. Not only did he capture his first Grand Slam title but he also became the youngest man to ascend to the top of the rankings.
To commemorate the milestone, he got the date of this special achievement tattooed near his right elbow, his first piece of body art. He also added the letters "CCC", in a reference to his grandfather's motto, "cabeza, corazon, cojones" (head, heart, b*lls).
Alcaraz won his second Grand Slam title at Wimbledon the following year, and decided to add another tattoo to mark the occasion. His got the date of his victory at the All England Club along with a strawberry etched on his right ankle. His win at the French Open this year meant that it was time for him to continue the tradition of getting a tattoo to go with his Major wins.
Along with the date of his win in Paris, Alcaraz got the iconic Eiffel Tower inked on his left ankle. The Spaniard's tattoo artist recorded the whole process, and the two took to Instagram to share the process as well.
"Thank you brother @carlitosalcarazz for coming home to get your first tattoo @rolandgarros, you are an inspiration to everyone! ❤️ soon the next one.." - Ganga on Instagram (translated from Spanish).
It remains to be seen whether or not Alcaraz adds another tattoo to celebrate his second Wimbledon triumph. His parents are not fully on board with his ever-growing collection of body art.
Carlos Alcaraz's next tattoo depends on his parents' approval
Carlos Alcaraz's tradition of getting a new tattoo for his Major victories may be on hold after his recent triumph at Wimbledon. When he was quizzed about getting inked again, the Spaniard revealed that his parents have only given him the go-ahead to get one for his first win at each Major.
"I told my parents, just to calm them, that it’s just the first one in every Major," Carlos Alcaraz said during his Tennis Channel appearance.
While Alcaraz felt that his parents wouldn't share the same level of excitement as him about getting another tattoo, he's ready to have a chat with them about the same.
"But I think this is a really big moment. Probably I’m gonna put the date of this one next to the last year’s. I have to discuss with them," the 21-year-old said.
Alcaraz will next be seen in action at the Olympic Games in Paris starting from July 27, and it will mark his debut at the quadrennial extravaganza as well. Not only will he compete in singles but also team up with Rafael Nadal to participate in doubles.
