How much prize money did N Sriram Balaji get after a second-round exit from the Australian Open 2025?

India’s N Sriram Balaji and his partner Miguel Reyes-Varela earned prize money of $58,000 after exiting in the second round of the men’s doubles in the Australian Open 2025. On Saturday, December 18, Balaji and Reyes-Varela lost their straight sets to the Portuguese pair of Nuno Borges and Francisco Cabral.

It took Borges and Cabral two hours and nine minutes to win the match 6-7 (1-7), 6-4, 3-6 on Court 13. Had Balaji and Reyes-Varela gone through to the third round, they would have assured themselves a prize money of $82,000.

The winner will get a prize money of $810,000. The runner-up and semi-finalists will earn $440,000 and $250,000, respectively. $142,000 is the prize money for the teams crashing out in the quarterfinals.


N Sriram Balaji fails to progress in Australian Open 2025

Balaji and Reyes-Varela made an impressive start to their campaign at Melbourne Park. In the first round, they beat Robin Haase and Aleksandr Nedovyesov 6-3, 6-3 but failed to carry the momentum into the second round.

The Indo-Mexican duo lost 7(7)-6(1), 4-6, 6-3 against the Portuguese pair of Nuno Borges and Francisco Cabral in the second round of the Australian Open at Melbourne Park.

Balaji and Reyes-Varela fought hard in the first set, taking it into a tie-breaker, where Haase and Nedovyesov dominated their opponents to have the last laugh. In the second set, Balaji and Reyes-Varela earned a crucial break to win it 6-4.

In the third and final set, Balaji and Reyes-Varela dropped their serve once and failed to convert the only break point chance they got. They were tentative with their second serves, winning only 52 percent of points from them and making three double faults.

Earlier, Rohan Bopanna, Rithvik Bollipalli, Jeevan Nedunchezhiyan, N Vijay Sundar Prashanth, and Anirudh Chandrasekar crashed out in the opening round of the men’s doubles in the hardcourt Major.
