Carlos Alcaraz and Novak Djokovic will contest the Wimbledon final for the second straight year on Sunday, July 14. The Spaniard is looking to defend the trophy he lifted twelve months ago after ousting the Serb in five sets.

To his credit, Alcaraz has now won 13 straight matches (seven during his 2023 run and six this year) at the All England Club.

The youngster is understandably confident about his prospects. Speaking to Diario AS in the lead-up to the final, he exuded confidence in his chances of winning again on Sunday.

Alcaraz said while he was sure to be nervous in the lead-up, he knows what it is like to be in the position. The past experience, he said, will help rise to the occasion.

“I believe in myself, I believe in the level at which I am playing," Carlos Alcaraz said. "I believe that I am going to win. That is in my head. Obviously, until Sunday there are days when I am going to be nervous, that is logical. But I know what it is like to be in this position,”
“I know how I have to deal with everything that is going to happen until the moment of the final. I know what I have to do,” he added.

The Spaniard also addressed Djokovic’s knee injury, saying despite the optics, the fact that the Serb has made it through to the final shows that he is playing at a high level. He dismissed the idea of there being a "favorite."

“With the issue of Djokovic’s knee, maybe they see me as a favourite," Novak Djokovic said. "Because of how he is playing, because of his statements."
"But if he is in a final it is because physically, tennis-wise he is at a very high level. And I do not consider myself a favourite. In a final I no longer see favourites,” he added.

Carlos Alcaraz also addressed the gulf of difference between his level of experience and that of Novak Djokovic, saying his opponent is far better equipped at dealing with big-match situations.

"Novak Djokovic knows much better than me what it means to play a Wimbledon final, what it means to play a Grand Slam final. He is much more prepared in that sense than I am," Carlos Alcaraz said.

Notably, Alcaraz has already lifted three Grand Slam titles at the young age of 21. The figure, however, still fades in comparison to Djokovic’s record 24 trophies.

The duo will take to Centre Court for the men’s singles final on Sunday. Djokovic is gunning to equal Roger Federer’s eighth Wimbledon titles.
