Jannik Sinner and Alexander Zverev recently playfully squabbled over the award for 'Best Hair' at the 2024 ATP Finals. While the Italian was awarded the honor, Zverev hilariously raised his objections to being snubbed.
Sinner is aiming to win his maiden title at the year-end championships in Turin after falling short against Novak Djokovic in the final last year. Zverev, meanwhile, is on the hunt for his third ATP Finals crown. The two have been drawn in opposite groups at this year's event, setting up the prospect of a blockbuster clash in the semifinals or final, provided they both reach the final four.
Before their opening matches, Jannik Sinner and Alexander Zverev dressed up in sharp suits for the official ATP Finals photoshoot and media day. Amid the festivities, Sinner received the award for 'Best Hair,' which left the World No. 1 bewildered.
"I have the best hair?" Sinner questioned.
Zverev hilariously crashed the Italian's acceptance speech, jokingly complaining that he had been growing out his hair for years solely to win this award, only to be snubbed in favor of the 23-year-old.
"He has the best hair? What the hell is this? I grew my hair for three years for this award and you’re giving it to him? Ah come on. I'm never going to win," Zverev said.
As the German complained, Sinner graciously handed over the trophy to him. The World No. 2 playfully accepted the award and declared himself the true winner before returning it to the Italian in good spirits.
"I'll give it to you," Jannik Sinner said.
"Thank you. I won this award. No, I'm kidding," the German joked.
At a loss for words, Jannik Sinner humorously joked that he couldn't even enjoy the win after Alexander Zverev had claimed it for his own.
"I'm surprised. I have no words. And now I'm not even happy anymore because Sascha took it," he said.
Jannik Sinner to lock horns with Taylor Fritz at ATP Finals 2024; Alexander Zverev to take on Casper Ruud
Both Jannik Sinner and Alexander Zverev have made strong starts to their respective campaigns at the 2024 ATP Finals. The World No. 1 claimed a commanding 6-3, 6-4 win over Alex de Mianur, while Zverev defeated Andrey Rublev 6-4, 6-4, bolstering their chances of reaching the semifinals.
Sinner will square off against Taylor Fritz in his second group stage match, following the American's 6-4, 6-3 win over Daniil Medvedev. The duo will lock horns in a rematch of this year's US Open final, where the Italian claimed a 6-3, 6-4, 7-5 victory.
Zverev, meanwhile, will face Casper Ruud, who pulled off a stunning 6-1, 7-5 upset over Carlos Alcaraz in his opening match. The German holds a 3-2 lead in his head-to-head record against Ruud, including a 2-6, 6-2, 6-4, 6-2 victory in their most recent encounter in the semifinals of the 2024 French Open.
