"I'll take you on" - Casper Ruud issues challenge to Holger Rune for double Scandinavian showdown in Norway & Denmark; Dane accepts

Casper Ruud has accepted Holger Rune's open challenge to compete with Dane on his home soil for a match but also added a fun stipulation. Rune recently played at the Champions Battle 2024 where he teamed up with compatriot Carolina Wozniacki to take on tennis couple Gaelf Monfils and Elina Svitolina. The event was held in Jiske Bank Boxen, Henrig in Denmark.

The men and played singles matches before heading to the main event - the mixed doubles. Rune defeated Monfils 7-6, 6-3 and Wozniacki defeated Svitolina 6-4, 4-6, 10-4. However, the tennis couple got revenge in the mixed doubles defeating the Danish duo 6-4 in the one-set battle.

The 21-year-old took to Instagram to thank the Danish crowd and assured them that this wasn't his final appearance on his home soil. He issued an open challenge to anyone willing to play him at Copenhagen.

"Thank you Denmark for an incredible night here in boxen. The Danish support is fantastic 🙌🏽 this will for sure not be the last time I play at home 🇩🇰 So anyone up for a challenge to play against me later this year in Copenhagen ? let me know 😄 #championsbattle2024 #jyskebankboxen"

Casper Ruud accepted the Dane's challenge, however, adding a fun stipulation of his own. The Norwegian said that he would play in Copenhagen provided Rune came to Oslo first for a match against him.

"I’ll take you on in Denmark if you come to Oslo first🇳🇴🇩🇰, " Rudd commented.

Holger Rune agreed to the Norwegian's stipulation and accepted the challenge.

"@casperruud deal 🦾 challenge accepted 😄," Rune responded.

Holger Rune and Casper Ruud have played each other seven times in their careers so far, with the Norwegian boasting a commanding 6-1 lead. Six of these meetings have come on clay and one on hard.

They played each other twice in 2021, at the Monte-Carlo Masters and the Bastad Open, with the Norwegian clinching victories on both occasions. Ruud continued his winning run against Rune in 2022 as well, beating him in the Monte-Carlo Masters and the French Open that year.

Holger Rune got his first win over the Norwegian at the 2023 Rome Masters coming from a set down but the Norwegian got his revenge by ousting the Dane in the quarterfinals of the Roland Garros that same year.

Their most recent meeting came in the semifinals of the 2024 Acapulco Open, which Casper Ruud won 3-6, 6-3, 6-3
