Novak Djokovic might be nearing the end of his tennis career at the age of 37, but the Serb is not ready to move away from the sport just yet. Should his son Stefan want to pursue a career as a tennis professional, for instance, Djokovic is ready to offer him his full sport and have his back throughout the journey.
Sunday was not the best of days for the 24-time Grand Slam champion, as he suffered a straight-sets loss in the final of the 2024 Wimbledon Championships at the hands of Carlos Alcaraz. Alcaraz, in a rematch of last year's final, leveled his head-to-head record with the World No. 2 at 3-3, and has now won his fourth Major title.
Speaking at the presentation ceremony afterwards, runner-up Djokovic addressed his wife Jelena, son Stefan and daughter Tara, extending his love to them. At the end, he added a word of advice to his seven-year-old son, stating that he had the choice to do whatever he wants to with his life, not just tennis.
While the former World No. 1 joked that he might not be able to coach Stefan, he promised to be there for him if he wanted it.
"I don’t know if I have the nerves to keep on going with the coaching career with my son. There are a lot of beautiful things in life, my son, tennis is not the only thing. But if you really wish to pursue it, I’ll be there for you,” Djokovic said.
Novak Djokovic on raising his son and daughter: "I am the one responsible for their healthy lifestyle"
Speaking in a recent interview with the Tennis Channel, Novak Djokovic shed light on how he raised his son and daughter, stating that he was the one who was responsible for their sports and healthy lifestyle.
The Serb took pride in the fact that he got to spend more time with them as a result, even taking them out with him during match days.
"Out of the two parents I am the one that is responsible for their activities, sports, healthy lifestyle. I want them... I have always sometimes, exactly -she is rolling her eyes right now (pointed to his wife) as I am speaking," Djokovic said.
"I keep on in a way reminding them how important it is to be active, just do sports, I mean whether it is tennis or whatever it is, just be active, be out there. So I try to take them on with me on tennis every day, even if it's the match day I want them to be here with me," he added.
Following his defeat at Wimbledon, the 37-year-old is expected to be in action next at the Paris Olympics, where he will contend for his maiden gold medal.
