Serena Williams' husband, Alexis Ohanian reacted to the Christmas celebrations organized at the former tennis player's hometown, Compton, in collaboration with his co-owned LAGC (Los Angeles Golf Club) team. Ohanian is also the co-founder of Reddit and has invested in various ventures.
Furthermore, Ohanian also co-owns the Los Angeles Golf Club (LAGC), a professional sports team in the TGL Golf League. This week the team arranged a Christmas celebration in collaboration with the Compton CC Initiative in Serena Williams' hometown.
In a joint post shared on December 24, LAGC and Compton CC Initiative came together to set up various activities such as indoor golfing and music. The post was captioned:
"This holiday season, we’re proud to be part of a meaningful collaboration with Los Angeles Golf Club (LAGC) for Christmas in Compton. Bringing golf to Compton isn’t just about the game—it’s about opening doors, inspiring dreams, and giving back to the community. Shout out to all the vendors and organizations that made this event happen!"
Alexis Ohanian reshared this video on his Instagram story and appreciated the festivities organized during the holiday season, writing:
"I love everything about this @wearelgc Christmas in Compton linkup."
Ohanian's interest in sports has never been hidden. Earlier this year in September, he launched a women-only track event, the Athlos NYC, held on September 26 in New York. The event featured several top athletes including Gabby Thomas, Masai Russell, and Brittany Brown. While an advocate of women's sports, Ohanian recently discussed why he has yet to acquire a stake in any of the WNBA teams.
Serena Williams' husband Alexis Ohanian explained the reason for not buying a WNBA team
Serena Williams, in an interview with CNN, once revealed that in the right market, she would be super interested in buying a WNBA team. However, her husband, Alexis Ohanian, revealed the reason behind not having invested in the WNBA.
In a recent conversation with the college basketball player Flau'jae Johnson, Ohanian discussed how he was more interested in making college-level women's basketball successful.
"I had a conversation with Adam Silver (Commisioner of the NBA) years ago. College basketball was so clearly the battleground for women, and there’s a tweet from me asking the NCAA to sell me the rights to women’s college basketball because I was way more interested in figuring out how to make that viable," Serena Williams' husband said.
Emphasizing how underrated women's college football is, Ohanian added:
"Ironically, the NCAA had been so under-investing in college women, remember the weight room fiasco, not being able to even say March Madness. So I mean, just imagine, you’re taking a thing that today is driving all of the attention and that attention means revenue and four years ago the stars weren’t even getting a weight room to train in and couldn’t even get the branding because they thought it was too precious and belonged to men."
Serena Williams has been invested in the WNBA for some time now, and earlier this year, the former tennis player offered advice to Caitlin Clark on how to handle negative scrutiny.
