Alexander Zverev candidly reflected on his performance in the 2025 Australian Open final, where he fell short of securing his third Grand Slam title. The German suffered a disappointing straight-sets loss to Jannik Sinner at Rod Laver Arena on Sunday, January 26.

The match began evenly, with both players locked at 3-3. However, Sinner seized control from that point, clinching the first set 6-3 after nearly an hour of play. In the second set, Zverev displayed resilience, pushing it to a tiebreak. Despite his determination, the World No. 1 prevailed 7-6(4).

The third set mirrored the first, as Sinner once again secured a 6-3 victory, successfully defending his Australian Open title. Moreover, the Italian didn't allow Zverev a single breakpoint opportunity during the match.

In his post-match on-court interview, Alexander Zverev admitted he wasn't "good enough" despite his team's efforts to do everything right. Meanwhile, his father and coach, Alexander Zverev Sr., acknowledged his honesty from the stands.

"My team, I mean, we're trying to do all the right work. I'm just not good enough. It's simple as that. But I really appreciate what everybody has done, over the last few years," he said.

Zverev reflected on his journey from the ankle injury at the 2022 French Open to reclaiming the World No. 2 spot, expressing gratitude to his team for their support.

"Back from my ankle injury to World No. 2, to play Grand Slam finals again. So, I really appreciate everything that they have done, and yeah I wouldn't be here without them," he added.

This victory marks Jannik Sinner's third Grand Slam title and his second consecutive one, following his triumph at the 2024 US Open. The 23-year-old also joined a distinguished group of players, including Novak Djokovic, Andre Agassi, and Roger Federer, who have won consecutive Australian Open titles in the 21st century.

Alexander Zverev leads Jannik Sinner 4-3 in their head-to-head record despite Sinner's commanding performance at Rod Laver Arena narrowed the gap against the World No. 2.

Their previous encounter took place in the semifinals of the 2024 Cincinnati Masters, a hard-fought battle in which Sinner edged out Zverev, winning 7-6(9) 5-7 7-6(4). The three-time Major champion went on to claim the title, defeating Frances Tiafoe in the final.

The Melbourne victory also marks Sinner's third Grand Slam title on hard court, after triumphs at the 2024 US Open and the 2024 Australian Open.
