Danielle Collins delivered a stylish win in the second round of the 2025 Australian Open and showed off her no-nonsense personality. Despite being booed by the crowd, she silenced them with her performance and made a ‘paycheck’ remark to troll them.

Collins' form hadn't been outstanding leading up to the Melbourne Major, but she made a strong start. She defeated Daria Snigur 7-6(4), 6-3 in the opening round, setting up a clash with Destanee Aiava in the second round.

The American secured a 7-6(4), 4-6, 6-2 victory over Aiava, who is an Aussie, despite facing boos from the crowd throughout the match. After her win, she cupped her hand to her ear to address the audience, blowing kisses to silence her critics.

Danielle Collins brought more humor to her on-court interview, saying that during the match, she considered that if she were to lose, she could enjoy the "big, fat paycheck" she would receive and have a "five-star vacation" with her team member, CoCo Vandeweghe

"I was thinking during the match. I was like, 'If I'm out of here, I might as well just take that big fat paycheck. Coco and I love, we love a good 5-star vacation. So part of that check is gonna go towards that,” Collins said.
“So thank you guys, thanks for coming out here and supporting us tonight,” she added.

Danielle Collins' no-nonsense approach has impressed her compatriot, Coco Gauff. After her second-round win over Jodie Burrage at the 2025 Australian Open, Gauff told the media:

"She always struck me as someone who didn't like to talk much, but when I got to know her, I realized it was quite the opposite. She's a nice person. She's Danielle. Danielle is going to be Danielle, and there is no one changing her, and she doesn't care either. That's something I can respect, someone who knows who they are."

The former US Open champion added:

"On the bench, she brought the best energy, and she was super nice and honestly kind of critical in those tough moments in United Cup. Just being authentically herself. If you know Danielle Collins, you know exactly what I'm talking about."

Gauff and Collins are both set to play their third-round matches in Melbourne soon. Gauff will take on Leylah Fernandez on Friday, January 17, while Collins will face Madison Keys a day later.
