Jimmy Connors' son Brett Connors recalled a superstitious belief everyone around him had during Andy Roddick's 2007 Australian Open campaign.

Roddick entered the tournament as the sixth seed, behind Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, Nikolay Davydenko, Ivan Ljubicic, and James Blake. He began the event with a win against French wildcard Jo-Wilfried Tsonga.

Later, Roddick beat Marc Gicquel, Marat Safin, and Mario Ancic to reach the quarterfinals, where he was drawn against his friend and compatriot Mardy Fish. Roddick registered a comfortable 6-2, 6-2, 6-2 win to set up a semifinal clash with Roger Federer, where he went down 6-4, 6-0, 6-2.

In a conversation on the latest episode of the Advantage Connors podcast, Brett spoke about the fourth-round match against Ancic and recalled how he gave in to a little superstition to help Roddick win.

"He played Mario Ancic [in the fourth round], he was really good, really tall and had a big serve. He had to go five sets. Ancic won the fourth 7-5 and then Roddick took it 6-4 in the fifth," he recalled.
"I remember sweating that out and I had like gone to the bathroom after a set and then I came back and I sat in a different chair. Like I was on the left and then I had sat on the other side of the row and Roddick broke immediately. And everybody in the in box was like ‘You're not moving, you’re staying in that chair of the rest of the match,’ you know," Brett added.

In reply, Jimmy Connors stated that sometimes little superstitions can end up being pretty successful.

"A little superstition carries a long way sometimes, right?" he expressed.
