Jannik Sinner revealed what his matchday routine durinng the ongoing Australian Open roughly looks like in a candid exchange with former World No. 1 Jim Courier. Sinner's revelation came after his comprehensive third-round win over Marcos Giron at the prestigious hardcourt Major.
The World No. 1 and defending Australian Open champion, managed to overcome Giron's threat to take the first two sets 6-3, 6-4. In the third though, the Italian was in full flow, and the American struggled to make much of an impact. Ultimately, Sinner won the third set 6-3 to progress to the fourth round of the tournament.
Jim Courier conducted Jannik Sinner's post-match on-court interview. and asked the Italian about his matchday routine, to which Sinner replied hilariously:
"Usually I'm quite relaxed until 20 minutes before the match, so I try to sleep in as long as possible, which I have no doubts I can do that every day." (at 2:30)
Sinner was then asked by Courier about the time at which he woke up. The Italian went on to reveal that he had slept for 10 hours the night before, which prompted the crowd at Rod Laver Arena to burst out into laughter.
"I slept around 10 hours this night, which is good," Jannik Sinner said.
"Enjoy it while it lasts my man. It doesn't last," Jim Courier replied.
"Everyone tells me that, so hopefully I can keep going. And then again I had half an hour before the match, again sleeping, but hopefully I wake up when it counts. At 7 I try to be awake, but no, if not, we obviously try to feel the ball a little bit for half an hour, 40 minutes. I'm trying to have good food, and obviously now it's quite long because we have to do press, we have to do ice bath, which, you know, is all part of the job, and hopefully I recover for tomorrow's practice," Sinner added.
Courier further quizzed Sinner about his routine specifically on Saturday, January 18, the day of the Italian's third-round win at the 2025 Australian Open over Marcos Giron. The World No. 1 responded saying:
"Today, I arrived around 2:30, and I'm going to leave in two hours time from now, so 11:30 more or less, and then I'm back to bed."
A few days ago, Sinner reflected on how he dealt with the remarkable success he achieved during the 2024 season.
