Leylah Fernandez made a lighthearted comment regarding how she plans to spend her time leading up to the doubles semi-final match at the 2023 Miami Open.
On Tuesday, March 28, Fernandez and her partner, Taylor Townsend, secured a spot in the Miami Open women's doubles semifinals. They moved ahead in the tournament with a hard-fought victory over the duo of Latvian Jelena Ostapenko and Ukrainian Lyudmyla Kichenok, winning 2-6, 7-6 (4), 10-8.
During a post-match interview with the Tennis Channel, Prakash Amritraj asked the North American duo how they plan on spending their time in the Floridian city before their highly anticipated semifinals match. Townsend responded that she intends to unwind and treat herself to a facial, while her partner, the 20-year old Canadian, joked that she has some homework to complete.
"I still got homework to do," Leylah Fernandez said.
Following her early exit from the women's singles matches at the Miami Open, the former US Open runner-up will be hoping to win the upcoming doubles semi-finals match and go on to secure the title.
Fernandez and Townsend are set to compete against Poland's Magda Linette and American Bernarda Pera in the upcoming semifinal match.

Tennis Canada announced the names of the four players who will represent Canada at the 2023 Billie Jean King Cup qualifiers in Vancouver. The team comprises Leylah Fernandez, Bianca Andreescu, Rebecca Marino, and Gabriela Dabrowski.
The highly anticipated matches are scheduled to take place on April 14-15 at the Pacific Coliseum. This event will witness Canada and Belgium competing against each other for the first time in over a decade.
Andreescu is poised to compete in her first home Billie Jean King Cup tie since 2018. This will mark her 11th appearance in a Billie Jean King Cup tie, while her compatriot Leylah Fernandez has already emerged victorious in eight of her 11 previous matches.
Bianca Andreescu's impressive performance at the 2023 Miami Open was cut short on Monday, March 27 due to an injury. There are doubts surrounding her participation in the upcoming event due to the injury she sustained during her fourth-round match against Ekaterina Alexandrova at the Floridian WTA 1000 tournament.
It will also be the second year in a row that Canada will host a Billie Jean King Cup qualifier tie in Vancouver. Canada previously defeated Latvia 4-0 in April 2022 with a lineup that included Fernandez, Marino, Dabrowski, and Carol Zhao.
