"I was terrible" - Andy Murray shares tennis update days before joining Novak Djokovic's team

Andy Murray joked about the present state of his tennis before joining Novak Djokovic's coaching staff. The former World No. 1 is set to coach his former rival during the Australian summer in 2025.

Murray called it quits on his tennis career during the 2024 season, with the Paris Olympics being his swansong.The 37-year-old teamed up with Dan Evans to represent Great Britain in the men's doubles tournament. They reached the quarterfinals before losing to eventual bronze medalists Taylor Fritz and Tommy Paul.

Andy Murray recently took part in fellow Brit Tim Henman's 24-Hour Challenge, which was used to raise funds for the latter's foundation. This took place at the indoor tennis courts of the All England Club, and Murray shared an image of himself and Henman, claiming that he was terrible while performing the challenge.

"Managed to get back out on the Tennis court for the last hour of Tim Henman 24-hour Tennis challenge @wimbledon. I was terrible," wrote the Scot.

Novak Djokovic announced the arrival of Andy Murray as his new coach several months after parting with former Wimbledon champion Goran Ivanisevic. The Serb took to social media and shared a video of the two's various moments on court, captioning it:

"He never liked retirement anyway."

The Serb has since commented that Murray is a perfect fit to be his coach as the Brit was a former World No. 1 and Grand Slam champion.

"I realised that the perfect coach for me at this point would be someone that has been through the experiences that I’m going through,” Djokovic has explained (via Sky Sports).

Djokovic and Murray locked horns on 36 occasions, with the former having a 25-11 head-to-head. They faced one another in seven Grand Slam finals, with the Serb coming out on top in five of them. Two of Andy Murray's three Major titles have come after beating Djokovic in the final, namely, US Open 2012 and Wimbledon.

The last encounter between the two came in the final of the 2017 Qatar Open, with the Serb triumphing 6-3, 5-7, 6-4, They were also supposed to lock horns in the third round of the 2022 Madrid Open but Murray was forced to withdraw due to illness.
