While taking some time away from tennis due to injuries, Nick Kyrgios is exploring his talents as a commentator at the ongoing US Open 2024. The former World No.13 has also made multiple trips to the courts of the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center to interview players. He hit out at a fan who criticized his presence at the competition.

Kyrgios was last seen in action in June 2023. Despite his break from tennis, he's been active in other aspects of the sport. In January, the 29-year-old joined the ESPN team as a guest commentator for the Australian Open. A few months later, he made a reappearance in the commentary box, this time with the BBC team at Wimbledon.

Now, Nick Kyrgios has once again joined the ESPN team, commentating at the US Open. However, a fan questioned his presence at the event, writing on X:

“Kyrgios got a weird case, why is he around?”

The Australian star responded to the fan:

“Well, espn pay me to give my best knowledge and enthusiasm and character to the broadcasting scene. Also, I’ve beaten all the goats of the sport so I think I can add and break down the game. Also, I’m in New York, because I have brands that require me for appearances. X”

Nick Kyrgios has struggled to get back to court, dealing with issues in his wrist and knee for which he underwent surgeries. The last time he competed was at the Boss Open in June 2023, where he was dealt an early exit at the hands of Yibing Wu.

The Australian hasn't had a single competitive outing in over a year now, and many fans have been wondering if his recent appearances in the commentary box are hinting at a new career. While he hasn't officially confirmed anything, Kyrgios did recently share a post on X by a fan that read,

“If he can’t return to 100% healthy form, I need Nick Kyrgios to transition to commentary full time & be court side at every Grand Slam going forward. #USOpen.”

Despite not competing in 2024, Nick Kyrgios has been seen on the tennis court twice so far this year. In July, he was spotted at the practice courts of Wimbledon alongside Novak Djokovic, exchanging some funny banter in an easy going session. Additionally, ahead of beginning his commentating duties at the US Open, he also participated in The Mixed Madness 2024 charity event on Aug. 21.
