Novak Djokovic clinched a nail-biting victory against World no. 3 Carlos Alcaraz in the quarterfinals of the 2025 Australian Open on Tuesday. The Serb was seen struggling during the first set of the match, when he failed to return a forehand shot by the Spaniard.

However, he quickly regrouped after a medical timeout in the first set and snatched victory in four sets to score a statement win on Rod Laver Arena under the lights.

When interviewer Jim Courier asked him to elaborate on his injury at the post-match interview, the 37-year-old replied:

"Well, since I'm still in the tournament I don't want to reveal too much, obviously."

For what it is worth, Djokovic came back on court with a strapping on his right leg after the MTO, which could point towards a groin injury.

The player slightly chuckled while talking about his medications "kicking in" as the match continued, adding quickly that he probably wouldn't have continued playing if he had lost the second set to go 0-2 behind.

"I didn't know, to be honest, if I lost that second set, I don't know if I would continue playing, but, you know, I felt better and better. You know, I was hesitant a little bit from the back of the court and, I took my chances and started to feel better, started to move better, so it didn't bother me, it didn't create any hindrance," he added.

After a marathon battle that lasted more than three hours, Djokovic defeated Alcaraz 4-6, 6-4, 6-3, 6-4 to qualify for the semifinals of the tournament.

With the win against Carlos Alcaraz, Novak Djokovic created history as he qualified for his 50th Grand Slam semifinal. Up next, he will be facing Germany's Alexander Zverev, who advanced to the semifinals after beating American tennis player Tommy Paul in a four-set thriller.

The duo have met 12 times previously on the ATP Tour, with the Serb leading 8-4 in the head-to-head against Zverev. The winner of the clash is likely to take on World No. 1 and defending champion Jannik Sinner in the final, with the Italian having reached the quarterfinals and next taking on home favorite Alex de Minaur. In the remaining quarterfinal match-up, American Ben Shelton will take on Lorenzo Sonego of Italy.
