Iga Swiatek stepped forward to discuss her one-month absence from events amid her doping row. After an unexpected early exit at the US Open 2024, Swiatek took a break from competitions. While things became rife amid the doping controversy, the Pole explained how her psychologist Daria Abramowicz provided unwavering support.
On 28th November 2024, the ITIA officially announced that Iga Swiatek accepted a one-month ban as she had tested positive for a banned substance, trimetazidine. During her absence, she also underwent a major coaching change, parting ways with Tomasz Wiktorowski and bringing in Wim Fissete. Rumors suggested it was because of the influence of her psychologist Daria Abramowicz.
Thrashing these rumors at once, Swiatek talked about the amazing support from Daria in a recent exclusive with the Tennis Insider Club podcast.
"Daria kind of saw that she knew that she wanted me to kind of figure it out on my own, but then I actually like didn't. I just went to this hole of like thinking about money and sponsors and everything. After some time where she saw that I'm not doing anything to, to change it, she kind of showed me like, 'Hey, this is not a good way to go. And this is not the only success you're going to have in your life,'" she said (24:55 onwards).
Furthermore, the World No. 2 also unveiled how the psychologist helped her get off a tumultuous phase of being grounded at home.
"So I kind of refocused and, um, and I could continue working on court, you know, rather than behind the laptop," she added.
This statement not only highlighted the impact of Daria's influential approach to Iga but also refuted allegations from Jan Tomaszewski. Speaking to Interia Sport in October last year, the former Polish footballer accused Daria of being the main figure behind the sacking of her ex-coach Tomasz Wiktorowski.
