"I will ugly cry a lot" - Monica Puig on watching Roger Federer's upcoming documentary 'Federer: Twelve Final Days'

Roger Federer's upcoming documentary Federer: Twelve Final Days is set to release next month and has fans and players excited. Recently, former tennis star Monica Puig also voiced her eagerness to watch the much-awaited documentary.

The Asif Kapadia directorial has captured the final 12 days of Federer's illustrious career and will stream on Amazon Prime from June 20. The 42-year-old retired in 2022 following the Lavers Cup, for which likes of Novak Djokovic, Andy Murray, and Rafael Nadal were present at The O2 Arena in London.

The farewell in London is fondly recalled for Federer's emotional moment when he shed tears with Nadal, his teammate in that match. Like many fans and fellow players, news regarding the documentary also excited Puig and former men's tennis star Andy Roddick. The duo spoke about the same during a recent interview with the Tennis Channel.

Puig, when asked about the upcoming documentary, looked elated but stated that it would likely make her cry. The Olympic gold medalist also expressed her excitement to watch the off-court scenes from Federer's final days in the sport.

"All I know is that I am going to see this by myself. Because I will probably ugly cry a lot. I always admire him [Federer], looked up to him. Great role model, and to see his life both as an athlete and all those private moments outside the court," she said.

Puig added that it would be a special experience to see a different version of the 20-time Grand Slam champion.

"You know it's going to be super super special. And thanks to him for letting us in and seeing a Roger Federer that most of us probably have never seen before," she said.

Tennis legend Mardy Fish recently poked fun at Roger Federer by recalling his victory against the Swiss at the 2008 Indian Wells Masters. Fish defeated Federer 6-3, 6-2 to clinch his spot in the finals that year, where he lost to Novak Djokovic.

He reshared the latest trailer of the documentary on X and had a message for the former World No. 1.

"Roger lets give the people what they really want. 12 days leading up to me beating you in Indian Wells," Fish wrote.

Federer had not responded to Fish's post at the time of writing.

The tennis legend notably wasn't ready for a full-length documentary until video content producer Joe Sabia convinced him to give it a try. Sabia clicked a ton of farewell moments in his camera and later presented those to Federer, which is rumored to have changed the latter's mind.
