After reaching the final of the 2024 Libema Open, Bianca Andreescu stated that she is willing to take a celebratory plunge into the lake should she win the WTA 250 grass court event. This is Andreescu's first championship match on grass since her appearance in the final of the Bad Homburg Open two years ago where she lost the title to Caroline Garcia.
After being sidelined for nine months due to a stress fracture in her back, Andreescu made a return to the court at the 2024 French Open. Despite her absence, she managed to reach the third round before falling to eventual runner-up Jasmine Paolini 1-6, 6-3, 0-6.
Looking to secure her first title since she won the 2019 US Open by defeating Serena Williams in the final, Bianca Andreescu kicked off her Libema Open campaign by defeating qualifier Eva Vedder, with a final score of 4-6, 6-3, 6-2 in the first round.
She continued her winning streak by defeating sixth seed Yuan Yue 6-4, 6-4 in the second round, and then overcame four-time Grand Slam champion Naomi Osaka 6-4, 3-6, 7-6(3) in the quarterfinals.
The former World No.4 recently defeated Hungarian qualifier Dalma Galfi with a score of 6-4, 6-2 in one hour and 31 minutes to secure her spot in the finals of the 2024 Libema Open.
During the post match on-court interview following her win over Galfi, Bianca Andreescu was asked if she after winning the title would follow in the footsteps of Tallon Griekspoor, who had jumped into the lake after winning the tournament last year.
In response, the Canadian expressed that she is focused on performing well and winning and then she will do whatever the people ask her to do
“I mean if I can win then I will so do whatever you guys want me to. I just want to do well and then the rest you guys can choose I will do it,” Andreescu said.

Talking about her match against Galfi, Andreescu stated that she played well and was satisfied with her performance. She also commended her opponent for playing well despite dealing with an injury.
"I think I played very good throughout the whole match. The conditions weren't easy and she played really well at times. I saw that she was a bit injured, which obviously doesn't help. So I just tried to stay focused until the end and I just never gave up," she added.
Bianca Andreescu will go up against either third seed and two-time defending champion Ekaterina Alexandrova or second seed Liudmila Samsonova in the final of the Libema Open.
