Martina Navratilova has openly acknowledged her mistake in supporting former U.S. Senator Al Franken's resignation amid multiple sexual misconduct allegations back in 2018. The tennis legend now recognizes that, given the current political climate, a seasoned Democrat like Franken could have played a significant role in driving meaningful change.

Franken is an American politician, comedian, actor, and writer who served as a U.S. Senator from Minnesota for two terms, from 2009 to 2018. He was first elected to the Senate in 2008 as a candidate of the Minnesota Democratic–Farmer-Labor Party and won reelection in 2014. However, he later resigned from his position following multiple allegations of sexual harassment.

In a recent post on X (formerly Twitter) on Saturday, December 7, Navratilova admitted she was "very wrong" for being one of the leading voices calling for the senator's resignation back then. She expressed regret over her stance and criticized the Democrats for being "too wimpy" over the years, urging them to toughen up.

She wrote:

"💯- I was one of those purists who said Franken should resign. I was very wrong. And I am sorry though I am sure nobody cared about what I said then and maybe now too. In any case- democrats have been too wimpy for decades now- it’s time to get tough!!! Wimpy doesn’t cut it."

Martina Navratilova has criticized Democrats for staying silent about transgender athletes competing in women’s sports. The tennis legend has long been a staunch supporter of left-wing Democratic policies.

The Czech-born American is also a strong critic of allowing transgender athletes to compete in women's sports and has often referred to them as "failed male athletes.”

Navratilova expressed her anger in an X post on December 4, saying that she was “so mad” even Donald Trump’s Republicans had raised their voice on this issue while Joe Biden’s Democrats always kept quiet on this issue. Her comments came after a republican candidate, Nancy Mace, was seen holding a t-shirt saying- “Save Girls’ Sports” on the same day.

Martina Navratilova wrote:

“And I am so mad that the Republicans captured this issue- shame on all the elected Democrats who keep silent on this!!! #whataboutthewomen.”

After her post, a user asked her to come on the “Right Side,” which Navratilova rejected vehemently.

User wrote:

“Come to the Right Side Martina...”

She replied:

“Not going to the criminal side. Bye now. ”
