"If I was Andre Agassi, I'd choose Steffi Graf 100/100 times over Andre" - Andy Roddick

Andy Roddick made it clear how he feels about Andre Agassi's decision to partner with his wife, Steffi Graf, instead of him for the Pickleball Slam 2. His comments came ahead of his participation in the third edition of the event, where he will team up with Eugenie Bouchard to take on the famous couple.

Pickleball Slam 3 is scheduled for February 16, 2025, at the Michelob Ultra Arena, located within the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino in Las Vegas. With a $1M prize purse up for grabs, the event will be broadcast live on ESPN at 4 PM ET.

Roddick and Agassi first joined forces in the inaugural edition of the Slam in 2023, defeating John McEnroe and Michael Chang to take the victory. In 2024, the eight-time Grand Slam champion teamed up with Graf, and the duo triumphed over Maria Sharapova and McEnroe to defend their title.

In a conversation with the event's official account, Andy Roddick openly expressed his feelings about Andre Agassi choosing Steffi Graf over him last year, saying:

“Does it bother me that Andre chose Steffi over me at last year's Slam? No. I mean, to be fair, if I was Andre, I would choose Steffi 100/100 times over Andre. Can't blame him.”

Although Andre Agassi has always been Andy Roddick's "idol," the former World No. 1 admitted on his 'Served with Andy Roddick' podcast in February 2024, that he still feels "incredibly starstruck" when he is around Steffi Graf.

"Like I've known Andre and he's been my idol for a long time but I have a hard time being in Steff's presence without being like incredibly starstruck. Which, in the tennis world, at this moment in my life, not too sound jaded, I don't get that way around many people in our orbit anymore, having lived this life for a little while," he said.

Roddick added:

"And Steff is like a huge exception, I can't be around around her without feeling like everything I say is just idiotic, which it might be, I'm just more conscious of it."

Graf is a tennis legend, with 22 Grand Slam titles to her name, making her one of the sport’s greatest female players, alongside Serena Williams and others. She made history as the only player to achieve the 'Golden Slam,' winning all four Majors and the Olympic gold in the same calendar year.
