Iga Swiatek interacted with several players ahead of the 2024 US Open and many of them including Carlos Alcaraz, Naomi Osaka, Matteo Berrettini, and Sebastian Korda were ousted in the second round. Fans noticed this anomaly and joked about it being a 'jinx'.

Swiatek met Alcaraz during a practice session ahead of the New York Major. Days later, the Spaniard faced a shock exit at the hands of Botic van de Zandschulp in the second round.

In another practice session, Swiatek played with Osaka and the Japanese player also suffered a second round against Karolína Muchová.

Moreover, the Pole participated in a mixed doubles exhibition event during the Fan Week at the US Open. She partnered with Sebastian Korda and played against Matteo Berrettini and Jasmine Paolini. Coincidentally, both Korda and Berrettini were ousted in the second round.

Iga Swiatek faces Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova in the US Open 3R

Although some of the players she met before the 2024 US Open faced an early exit from the event, Iga Swiatek has continued to impress in New York. She has made it to the third round after winning two matches without dropping a set.

Swiatek got the better of Kamilla Rakhimova 6-4, 7-6(6) before ousting Ena Shibahara 6-0, 6-1 to set up a third-round clash against Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova on Saturday, August 31.

The 25th seed made her way into the third round by getting the better of Taylah Preston 6-2, 6-0, and Elisabetta Cocciaretto 5-7,6-1, 6-2. This will be the second encounter between the pair after the Pole's dominating 6-0, 6-0 victory over Pavlyuchenkova in Rome last year.

The winner between Swiatek and Pavlyuchenkova will take on either Ashlyn Krueger or Liudmila Samsonova in the fourth round of the US Open.
