On October 4, 2024, after her doping suspension was lifted, Iga Swiatek announced via an Instagram post that she had decided to part ways with her coach, Tomasz Wiktorowski. The Polish duo achieved great heights.
During the partnership, Swiatek achieved the women's World No. 1 ranking and won an Olympic bronze and four Grand Slams: three Roland Garros titles and one at the US Open. She discussed her decision to switch coaches in an interview with Tennis Insider Club:
"Honestly, it was a mutual kind of a thing. I was not planning to change coaches this season, but we came to this situation where we had to, you know, so now I’m working with Wim (Fissette) and it’s exciting, but for sure, I have to see how my tennis is going to evolve in the next year."
Naomi Osaka and her coach Wim Fissette also parted ways at the time. On October 17, 2024, Fissette, highly rated in women's tennis, was appointed Swiatek's head coach. He has helped other high-profile players like Simona Halep win multiple Grand Slams.
"I have a new coach to learn something new because it’s also not easy to do that when you know that you have been playing so well for the last few years," Iga Swiatek added. "If you are not going to evolve in tennis, other girls are going to come after you and suddenly you will wake up outside the top 50 or something [chuckles]."
Iga Swiatek has dominated women's tennis in the last four to five years, spending 122 weeks at the top spot.
Iga Swiatek's winning formula
In the above interview, Iga Swiatek shared an insight into what she is trying to do and does to constantly improve her game which helps her to be at her best:
"I am trying to be open-minded but we are not trying to change a lot because there’s no need to. All these things we work on, I wanted to work on before, it’s just a little bit different approach. You never know what’s going to work or not, you just need to trust the process."
Swiatek stressed the importance of balancing continuity and evolution. She explained that major changes are not required. Instead, she focuses on making minor tactical adjustments and adopting a slightly different approach to achieve the same goals.
