Iga Swiatek recently spoke about attending Taylor Swift's Eras Tour concert in Liverpool, United Kingdom last year. The Pole admittedly broke into tears twice, as it was surreal for her to experience the American pop icon's music live.
Swiatek has been an ardent fan of Taylor Swift's music, to the extent that she has even discussed some albums from the singer-songwriter's discography like Midnights, Evermore, Folklore, and The Tortured Poets Department. Last June, the five-time Major winner saw Swift perform for the first time during the latter's Eras Tour concert in Liverpool.
Iga Swiatek later revealed that she cried upon seeing Taylor Swift appear on the stage. The 23-year-old also received a handwritten letter from Taylor Swift following the concert. Earlier this week in Perth, the Pole delved deeper into the experience, disclosing that she had cried not once but twice during the entire gig.
"Oh, amazing. I cried twice," Iga Swiatek said during a media interaction at the United Cup. "First, I cried just because I saw her. I don't know, I spent my whole life looking at her over the internet. And suddenly, she was there on the stage and she felt so real, you know? And then, I get a handwritten note from her, so then I cried again. So, it was a great experience."
Iga Swiatek: "I couldn't sleep and everything, we decided it's better to focus on Wimbledon"
Later in June 2024, Iga Swiatek said during her pre-tournament press conference at Wimbledon that she was so excited to see Taylor Swift live that she couldn't focus on her campaign at SW19.
"I actually was thinking about going here for the second time, but, my team was like, okay, because, basically after this concert, three days after I was like so excited and I couldn't sleep and everything that we decided it's better to focus on the tournament, um, but it was a great experience," Swiatek told the media at Wimbledon last year.
Unfortunately, the Pole exited the grasscourt Major in the third round as she fell to Kazakhstan's Yulia Putintseva by a scoreline of 6-3, 1-6, 2-6. She vacated her World No. 1 position in the WTA rankings to arch-rival Aryna Sabalenka a few months later, marking the first time since 2021 that she hadn't finished as the numero uno player on the women's tour.
