Iga Swiatek earned an emphatic win against Emma Raducanu to storm into the fourth round of the 2025 Australian Open on Saturday.
The second-seeded Polish star took 70 minutes to defeat Raducanu 6-1, 6-0 and serve out the 86th “Bagel” of her career. A Bagel is a tennis term for when a player wins a set 6-0, a trait Swiatek is wildly popular for.
Speaking in the on-court interview, after making light work of Raducanu, Swiatek said she particularly enjoyed the fact that her shots clicked and she was able to find the lines at crucial points. The four-time French Open champion struck 14 winners en route to her commanding win.
“I just enjoyed playing. I hit a few shots where I thought after, ‘this is what I practice for.’ To play these kind of shots,” said Swiatek.
Swiatek did not offer a single breakpoint during the contest and said she was pleased with how she got the job done.
“I felt pretty confident. At the end I could push her even more. Converting all those break points as well was important. I’m happy with today’s performance.”
Iga Swiatek has been a force to reckon with at the Australian Open. She is yet to drop a set in the tournament as she chases her first Major in Melbourne.
Swiatek began her campaign with a 6-3, 6-4 win against Katerina Siniakova in the opening round followed by a 6-0, 6-2 victory over Rebecca Sramkova. Her win against Raducanu on Saturday takes her into the fourth round, where she will face Germany's Eva Lys.
Who is Iga Swiatek‘s coach at Australian Open?
Iga Swiatek has a new face in her corner as Belgian coach Wim Fissette joined her team late last year. Fissette has previously worked with top names in the women’s circuit such as Kim Clijsters, Simona Halep and Naomi Osaka.
In an earlier interview, Swiatek spoke about how Fissette’s experience on the WTA tour served as a big advantage for her.
"He’s great. I feel like he’s really supportive. Being on the women’s tour isn’t easy. When most of the coaches are men, they need to also understand what we go through sometimes. Wim does that well. He uses his experience. Besides the stuff we do on court, we have a nice relationship and can talk about many things," Swiatek said.
Having previously produced multiple Grand Slam champions, Fissette will look to do the same with Swiatek as she looks for her career's sixth Major title.
