Mirra Andreeva recently weighed in on her quarterfinal clash against Iga Swiatek at the 2024 Cincinnati Open, claiming that she was just as confident as the Pole ahead of their match. Andreeva defeated fifth seed Jasmine Paolini 3-6, 6-3, 6-2 in the third round.

Fresh off her Paris Olympics doubles silver win, Andreeva began her 2024 Cincinnati Open campaign with straight-set victories against Emma Navarro and Karolína Plíšková. In the third round, the Russian avenged her Paris Olympics loss to Jasmine Paolini by defeating the Italian 3-6, 6-3, 6-2.

Mirra Andreeva will face Iga Swiatek in the quarterfinals on August 17. Speaking to Prakash Amritraj on Tennis Channel after her win against Paolini, Andreeva said she didn't feel that Swiatek had 'something exceptional'. However, the 17-year-old acknowledged that the Pole was in great form and her confidence reflected on the court.

"Of course she's No. 1 in the world but she's also a human being. So, I don't think there's something exceptional. Of course, she's playing great and she feels a lot of confidence, she's very confident on court," Andreeva said (at 4:20).

Expressing self-confidence, Andreeva added that she would try to make the best of her first appearance at the Cincinnati Open.

"I feel like, so am I. I'm pretty confident as well. So, I'm just gonna go on court and do my best. If it doesn't go my way this time, it'll go my way next time. But I will try my hardest that this time it is my way tomorrow," she added.

Following her women's singles Bronze medal win at the Paris Olympics, Iga Swiatek reached the Cincinnati Open quarterfinals after defeating Varvara Gracheva and Marta Kostyuk.

Mirra Andreeva fell short of reaching the 2024 French Open final after Jasmine Paolini defeated her 6-3, 6-1 to set up a blockbuster clash with Iga Swiatek. The Pole ended up lifting her third consecutive French Open title after a comfortable victory against the Italian.

Soon after, Andreeva and Paolini faced each other again in the final of women's doubles at the Paris Olympics. Paolini, along with Sara Errani, defeated Andreeva and Diana Shnaider to clinch the gold at the French capital.

Speaking to the media after her first-round victory against Emma Navvaro at the Cincinnati Open, the young Russian talked about her maiden Olympics campaign and her 'love' for Roland-Garros.

"I love to play on those courts, I didn’t have a choice! I had to win at least one match there. With this mindset, I went on the court, and Diana [Shnaider] helped me win a match at the Olympics. That’s how we got it done. It was an amazing experience for me. I didn’t have high expectations but I felt like we could play good," Andreeva said (via Tennis.com).

The quarterfinals, slated for August 17, will mark the first encounter between Mirra Andreeva and Iga Swiatek.
