Iga Swiatek's lack of worry over the surface switch from grass to clay for the upcoming Paris Olympics sparked hilarious reactions from the fans. The 2024 Paris Olympics will start in a couple of weeks after Wimbledon and will be played at Roland Garros.
Swiatek is coming off a phenomenal clay season where she won two WTA 1000 titles in Madrid and Rome and followed it up with a historic three-peat at the 2024 French Open. She was supposed to begin her grass campaign at the ecotrans Ladies Open but pulled out to rejuvenate herself after a hectic clay season.
After her triumph at the Clay Major, the 23-year-old was asked if she was apprehensive about having to quickly switch surfaces from grass to clay. She admitted that clay to grass could have been troublesome but she was confident returning to clay and needed just two days to adapt to the red dirt.
"I think it would be a bigger challenge if there was grass first, meal in the middle, and grass again. Going back to the meal won't be a problem for me. When I come back to it after a whole year, two days are enough and I feel great on clay." She said to Przeglad Sportowy.
She also said that she played in Stuttgart after the Billie Jean King Cup, played on hardcourt, and felt comfortable adapting to the surface.
"This year I already played the Billie Jean King Cup on hard, I entered the clay tournament in Stuttgart and I was able to play a very good tournament, so going to the clay a second time will not be a problem."
A lot of players, Aryna Sabalenka, Ons Jabeur, and Emma Raducanu to name a few, have withdrawn from the Olympics citing surface shift, health issues, strenuous schedule, etc as reasons.
Fans on X hilariously reacted to the Pole's bold statement. One fan joked how Iga Swiatek indirectly claimed that she was not as weak as her peers.
"Oh she said I’m not weak like #yall 😭🫵🏾."
Another fan said how the Pole's decision to play in the Olympics is smart and her peers will regret not playing in it in some years.
"Good for you Iga, they dont know it now but they will regret it in years to come if they miss out on an olympic medal."

A look at Iga Swiatek's campaign at the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo
Iga Swiatek made her Olympics debut at the Tokyo Olympics 2020 (staged in 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic). She competed in the women's singles and the mixed doubles categories. However, both of her runs were short-lived as she was eliminated in her second match in both categories.
In the singles, the Pole was seeded sixth and kicked off her run against Germany's Mona Barthel. She comfortably won 6-2, 6-2 to see off the German and made it to the second round where she met Paula Badosa. The Spaniard ousted Swiatek 6-3, 7-6(4) putting an end to her medal hopes.
She then partnered with Lukasz Kubot for the mixed doubles. The duo faced the French pairing of Fiona Ferro and Pierre-Hugues Herbert in the opening round and won 6-3, 7-6(3). They were defeated 6-4, 6-4 by the Russian Olympic Committee's Elena Vesnina and Aslan Karatsev in the quarterfinals, ending Iga Swiatek's Olympic campaign.
