Andy Murray's mother Judy Murray posted a comment calling for disallowing Algerian boxer Imane Khelif at the 2024 Paris Olympics. Reacting to this, several fans reminded Judy that the Algerian is a biological female.
Controversy ensued at the ongoing Olympics when Khelif took on Italy's Angela Carini in the women's 66kg bout on Thursday, August 1. Just 46 seconds into the fight, Carini abandoned the bout and started sobbing.
Notably, Khelif was disqualified from the 2023 World Championships after failing a gender test. She was removed from the gold medal bout as the IBA President, Umar Kremlev alleged that Khemir had XY chromosomes in her DNA.
Amidst the recent controversy, many eminent personalities have condemned the authorities for allowing Khelif to participate in the Olympics. Judy Murray took to X and wrote:
"This should never have been allowed to happen. Bring back the swab test. Sport has to be fair and safe for biological women," Judy wrote.
Fans reminded Judy, however, that there are no confirmed reports about Khelif being transgender and that as things stand, she is a biological female.
"Judy she's a woman. You're advocating for excluding women from their own categories..." one fan wrote.
"She is a biological woman! Do some research," another fan wrote.
"She is a biological woman you muppet. More of a woman than you’ll ever be," a third fan wrote.
Here are some more fan reactions to Judy Murray's stance.
"IMANE KHELIF IS A BIOLOGICAL FEMALE WITH DSD!! It is absolutely legal for her to fight against other women. Michael Phelps had more testosterone, a greater lung capacity and less lactic acid than any of his opponents and no one called for him to be banned," one fan wrote.
"She is a biological female. It is not a trans situation, it’s a hormonal one," another fan explained.
"Kind of crazy to be saying this shit about a biological woman," a third fan wrote.
Boris Becker and Martina Navratilova also reacted to Imane Khelif's participation at Paris Olympics
Apart from Judy Murray, Boris Becker and Martina Navratilova also reacted to the controversy surrounding Imane Khelif. Becker and Navratilova reposted an update provided by Harry Potter author JK Rowling, who called Khelif a 'bullying cheat'.
Becker agreed with Rowling and wrote:
"Word."
Navratilova also condemned the authorities and wrote:
"Exactly right. This is all on IOC and those in power who make the rules. It’s a travesty and makes a mockery of all Olympic sports."
In the round of 16, Imane Khelif will take on Hungary's Luca Anna Hamori on Saturday, August 3.
