Since retiring during the 2024 season, Angelique Kerber has been embracing life after tennis. She recently gave fans a glimpse of her time in the Maldives, where she enjoyed quality time with her daughter, Liana.
Kerber initially stepped away from tennis in August 2022 as she and her partner, Franco Bianco, were expecting the birth of their daughter, who came into this world in March 2023. She made her return to the WTA Tour for the 2024 season and officially retired after representing Germany at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
On Monday (Dec. 9), Kerber shared a series of images on Instagram from her time in the Maldives with her daughter. One photo featured her on a yacht, another showed her dining at a restaurant with an aquarium backdrop. Additional shots included moments with her daughter in the pool and other highlights from their trip.
In the post's caption, she raved about her Maldives vacation at Anantara Kihavah, praising the beautiful stay, family activities and exceptional hospitality. She also appreciated the opportunity to train on-court with Lux Tennis during the LT Star Event.
“Ask a tennis player for the perfect Maldives holidays 😅🏝️😘…. I‘m still amazed by the beautiful stay @anantarakihavah and the special activities I got to experience with my family ❤️! Thank you for the perfect hospitality and the workout on-court with @luxtennis during the LT Star Event 🎾” Kerber wrote.
The former World No. 1 also shared an image of herself and her daughter in the pool, where the toddler was holding onto her necklace. She jokingly captioned that her daughter would soon start borrowing her jewelry:
“It won't be long until she borrows my jewelry.”
Angelique Kerber - “There’s now a little person in my life that’s more important than tennis”
In April 2024, during an interview with Porsche Newsroom, Angelique Kerber opened up about the impact of motherhood on her life. She shared that while she still loves tennis, her daughter, Liana, is her top priority.
"I still love tennis, but I’m first and foremost a mother with my whole heart, and it’s a joy. There’s now a little person in my life that’s more important than tennis. It makes it easier to be patient. Patience isn’t really one of my strengths. But I knew that it would take a bit of time before I started playing well and getting back to my former level," Kerber said.
Before her retirement at the 2024 Paris Olympic Games, Angelique Kerber enjoyed a stellar career, spending 34 weeks as the WTA World No. 1 and winning 14 career titles, including three Grand Slams. She also earned a silver medal in women’s singles while representing Germany at the 2016 Rio Olympics.
