Ben Shelton has shared photos of himself spending time with his sister Emma and family ahead of the 2024 Laver Cup. The American has not competed in any tournaments since his third-round finish at the 2024 US Open.

Ben Shelton is the younger of two children born to Bryan and Lisa Shelton, with his sister Emma having also played college tennis. Both parents were former athletes, and his father, Bryan, reached a career-high ATP ranking of No. 55 in 1992. After a successful career as a college coach, Bryan stepped down in 2023 to focus on coaching his son, Ben.

On Monday, World No. 17, Ben Shelton shared a few images from his weekend spent with family. Some of the pictures showed him playing with his little cousins and nieces, another showed him being lifted by three of his older cousins.

One of the photos featured his sister Emma sitting on a bench with their younger cousins. He also posted a throwback photo of his dad playing football with a young Ben and two of his cousins. The caption of the Instagram carousel read:

“Last weekend ft. the Sheltons”

The Laver Cup is scheduled to take place from September 20 to September 22 in Berlin, and Ben Shelton will be part of Team World for the second time, having made his debut at last year's edition.

He was a member of the Team World squad that defeated Team Europe 13-2 in Vancouver, Canada. Shelton will be aiming for Laver Cup glory alongside Taylor Fritz, Frances Tiafoe, Tommy Paul, Félix Auger-Aliassime, and Francisco Cerúndolo.

Ben Shelton on being coached by his father - “If I lose a match it’s a bigger deal than everyone else”

In an interview during the 2024 Wimbledon Championships, Ben Shelton discussed his college training and practice sessions with his father. He revealed that, despite their relationship, he wasn’t given any special treatment. Instead, he was held to a higher standard and disciplined more strictly than the others on the team.

“We started working really well together when we got on tour. He was obviously my coach in college, and that was tough. There are 11 other guys on the team. I’m the coach's son, so he has to show that there’s no favoritism, which I understand. But also I’m running more sprints than everyone else when I do something wrong or show up late.
I’m getting chewed out for more. If I lose a match, it’s a bigger deal than everyone else (smiling). Which I understand why he had to do that to keep the team in the right place. “Ben Shelton said

This season, the American won the second title of his career at the US Men's Clay Court Championships and became the youngest American No. 1 since Andy Roddick in March 2004. He also reached a career-high ranking of No. 13 in August.
