Tennis stars Carlos Alcaraz, Taylor Fritz, and Frances Tiafoe, among others, posed for an official pre-event photograph at the iconic Brandenburg Gate in Berlin in a stunning prelude to the 2024 Laver Cup. The players, dressed in sleek black suits and white shirts, stood against the backdrop of a breathtaking sunset, with the Laver Cup Trophy.
The Laver Cup, now in its seventh edition, is set to take place at the Uber Arena in Berlin from September 20-22, 2024. This event, named after the legendary Rod Laver, pits Team Europe against Team World in a unique format.
The photograph, shared on the official Laver Cup social media page on X, features a star-studded lineup, including Jan-Lennard Struff, Daniil Medvedev, Alexander Zverev, Stefanos Tsitsipas, Grigor Dimitrov, Flavio Cobolli, Casper Ruud, and Carlos Alcaraz of Team Europe. They were joined by Thomas Enqvist, Vice-Captain of Team Europe, and Bjorn Borg, Captain of Team Europe.
Representing Team World were Francisco Cerundolo, Tiafoe, Alejandro Tabilo, Ben Shelton, Thanasi Kokkinakis, and Fritz, along with John McEnroe, Captain of Team World, and Patrick McEnroe, Vice-Captain of Team World. The presence of Rod Laver himself added a touch of historical significance to the moment.

This year’s Laver Cup is particularly significant as it marks the end of an era, with both Borg and McEnroe set to be replaced by Yannick Noah and Andre Agassi, respectively, in the next edition.
"Super excited" - Carlos Alcaraz and Taylor Fritz share their anticipation ahead of the Laver Cup
Four-time Grand Slam winner Carlos Alcaraz shared his enthusiasm for making his debut with Team Europe in the upcoming Laver Cup.
Alcaraz recently guided Spain to the quarterfinals of the 2024 Davis Cup Finals, securing a 6-3, 6-3 victory against France’s Ugo Humbert.
"I think it’s a unique event. I’m supporting my opponents from the rest of the year, so it’s going to be a little bit weird for me but I think it’s going to be fun. The format is unique as well, so I’m super excited to start the event and see how it’s going to be on Friday and at the weekend. Really happy to be here at the Laver Cup," Alcaraz told media after the photoshoot (via atptour.com).
Meanwhile, World No. 7 Taylor Fritz, who is set to make his fourth appearance for Team World, also expressed excitement about the Berlin exhibition. The 26-year-old recently reached the final at the US Open, where he finished as runner-up after a straight-set loss to top seed Jannik Sinner.
"I’m super excited I’m here," said Fritz. "I’ve heard really good things about Berlin and so far I’m really enjoying it. It’s one of those places that if Laver Cup wasn’t here, I might never have gotten the chance to come."
The Laver Cup, conceived by Roger Federer and his management company ‘Team8,’ is a three-day exhibition event modeled after golf’s Ryder Cup.
