Caroline Wozniacki on her children understanding her career as a tennis player: “My son is too young but Olivia does understand, she’s my hype woman”
Last month, while speaking to Yahoo Sports, Caroline Wozniacki stated that motherhood was very "special" and something she never expected to be able to experience. She stated that balancing the demands of being a full-time athlete with the responsibilities of motherhood was both exhausting and rewarding
Wozniacki shared that her son James is still too young to fully understand her career as a tennis player, but her daughter Olivia is her biggest cheerleader during matches.
“It's just so special and something I never thought I’d have the opportunity to do . It’s very hard as well because it’s like having two full-time jobs. It’s definitely exhausting, but it’s definitely worth it . My son is too young but Olivia does understand. She’ll tell everyone when she watches tennis on TV, ‘My mum plays tennis and she’s so good’. She’s my hype woman and I love it,” Wozniacki said.
The Dane also talked about the challenges faced by players returning to the tour after having children, explaining it was a different experience compared to making a comeback from an injury
“I think there should be more done for women coming back from maternity leave. It has been looked at because obviously there’s more players now that want to come back but, at the same time, it’s not the same as coming back from an injury,” she stated.
Caroline Wozniacki, who retired from tennis in January 2020 and returned to court at the 2023 US Open, also talked about the physical changes the body undergoes post-pregnancy.
“As someone who came back after almost four years, I think when you give birth and for the body to recover, you’ve grown a human inside you, there’s a lot of changes that are happening in the body after that.”
Caroline Wozniacki will also compete at the 2024 Paris Olympics. She, along with Holger Rune and Clara Tauson, will represent Denmark in tennis at the Games.
