Tennis legend Roger Federer recently gave fans a sneak peek into his New York outing. Making a notable appearance at the 2024 US Open on Tuesday, September 3, Federer, dressed in a sleek all-black ensemble, attended day 9 at the USTA Billie Jean King Tennis Center.
The five-time champion’s visit to the New York Major marked his first since calling it quits on his career in September 2022. The Swiss attended an evening session featuring a women’s singles quarterfinal between pairs Olympic gold medalist Zheng Qinwen and last year’s runner-up Aryna Sabalenka, as well as the men’s singles quarterfinal between Frances Tiafoe and Grigor Dimitrov.
Providing more details about his New York trip, the 43-year-old took to his Instagram account on September 5, 2024, to share some highlights.
The various pictures he posted showed him enjoying a large classic New York pizza, filming an episode of ‘Sneaker Shopping’ with media company Complex, signing copies of his recently released first-ever visual biography 'Federer', capturing the New York skyline, showing off his US Open all-access pass, and enjoying the quarterfinal match between Tiafoe and Dimitrov.
"Here for a NY Minute," the post was captioned.
"I love New York, there's no place like it" - Roger Federer
Roger Federer embarked on a journey through New York City in a video series produced by the Japanese clothing brand, Uniqlo.
The video, titled ‘Rolling in the Dough’, is part of a four-part series named ‘24 Hours with Roger’. In the video, aired in July 2023, the Swiss shared his admiration for the host city of the US Open and encouraged fans to join him on his amazing journey as he takes on the vibrant American metropolis.
"I'm returning to the home of the US Open, the city that gave us a slam, celebrated for its innovation, bold style, and some of the liveliest fans tennis has ever known. You're in New York City and touring their city is what I love most about traveling, meeting good people who do their work from a place of passion, who share a love for tennis too," he said.
"I love New York, there's no place like it. It's challenging, bursting with life, and full of opportunities to try something new," he added.
Roger Federer’s partnership with Uniqlo, established in 2018, marked a major shift in his endorsement deals, as he moved from a long-standing association with Nike. The Japanese clothing brand signed the Swiss star to a 10-year deal reportedly worth $300 million, signaling their commitment to global visibility through one of tennis’s biggest icons.
