Roger Federer-backed ON recently launched a limited edition THE ROGER Clubhouse Pro in honour of Laver Cup 2024. The shoes have a red and blue colorway, indicating Team World's red jersey and the blue jersey for Team Europe.
The Laver Cup is Federer's brainchild, created by his management company TEAM8, former Davis Cup player Jorge Paulo, and Tennis Australia. The Swiss legend intended to create a tournament based on golf's Ryder Cup, which is a biennial tournament between top golfers from the United States and Europe.
For the 2024 edition of the Laver Cup, ON launched a limited edition in a blue and red colorway. According to the ON website:
"A unique sockline features signature colors for Team Europe and Team World, plus a gradient heel clip that blends the two."
The shoes suit all racquet sports, including tennis, padel, and pickleball due to its full-length herringbone outsole. It is stable, agile, plush, and cushioned, making it a perfect shoe for on and off-court styling.
Roger Federer: "Looking forward to all the ROGER models that are coming"
Roger Federer talked about 'THE ROGER Clubhouse Pro' in an interview with Highsnobiety. The Swiss Maestro said that the shoes control sliding very effectively.
“It's amazing how they [THE ROGER Clubhouse Pro] are able to control sliding. I was always a little bit afraid of too much sliding going on, to be honest. I think that also requires a different design element to it, perhaps the herringbone we used as the outsole is very important,” he told Highsnobiety.
The former World No. 1 was elated to be part of ON's journey, adding that the ROGER franchise growth has been 'unreal'.
“Personally, if On can grow in tennis, that'd be great. To be a part of that journey, before the IPO and everything, has been pretty extraordinary. Looking at the Roger franchise already and seeing that growth has been unreal," he said.
Looking ahead to the future, the 20-time Grand Slam champion teased 'something special' in the next five years. He was also excited about the 'crossover things' the shoemaker would launch.
“I think if I look five years ahead, I think we're talking about something extremely special at On. Not only am I looking forward to all the ROGER models that are coming, but also the crossover things we can hopefully do. The hybrid shoes we did with the Clubhouse Pro. I think it's going to be pretty cool,” he added.
Roger Federer bid a tearful goodbye to tennis after the 2022 Laver Cup.
