Serena Williams’ husband has previously championed NCAA women's basketball, pointing out how they often outperform their male counterparts in terms of outreach on social media.

“In the age of social, you look at the up and coming athletes in college, let's use college basketball in numbers, run the numbers on followers. None of this is about what feels good, none of this is about charity. This is democracy. This is people clicking ‘follow’ on the largest social network in the world, and saying ‘I would rather follow her, for instance than this dude,’” he said.
“Women athletes have such an edge in social, because they create content, create memes. We know women over perform as content creators than men, and they're going to be able to bring that into the market now with NIL. It's an exciting time but it's going to look different. It should look different than the men's game. It's just going to take a little bit of entrepreneurial spirit to set them up for success,” Ohanian added.

Throughout her career, Serena Williams was a vocal supporter of equal rights for players on the court. Since retiring, the 43-year-old has continued her advocacy to ensure women's sports get the right exposure.

Earlier this year, Williams discussed the rapid growth of the WNBA, and told CNN that she would be very keen on owning a team in the league as an entrepreneur, saying"

“I absolutely would be (interested). With the right market, I would definitely be super-interested in that.”
"Women's sport is having a moment that it should have always had. I feel like tennis has had its moment and it's international, and it's huge and it's always going to be there. Now it's time to lift up other sports; women's soccer, women's basketball, there's so many other sports that women do so great, let's put it on that platform that tennis is on,” she added.

Serena Williams is largely considered one of the greatest tennis players of all time. She stormed to 23 Grand Slam singles titles and was ranked the World No.1 for 319 weeks.
