Serena Williams is one of the greatest tennis players of all time, and she's continued to remain in the spotlight since her retirement. A couple of weeks ago, the American attended an Audemars Piguet event in Miami, where she met up with several big names from various industries, including the most decorated gymnast of all time, Simone Biles.
During the Miami Art Week (December 2 to December 8), Audemars Piguet hosted an event in collaboration with Vanity Fair and The Female Quotient, where various female executives, entrepreneurs, and more gathered for panel discussions. Williams was also a part of the event.
Recently, the official Instagram account of Audemars Piguet shared some behind-the-scenes snaps from the event. In one picture, the tennis star posed with Biles, the brand's CEO, Ilaria Resta, and Vanity Fair’s editor-in-chief, Radhika Jones. The picture was captioned,
“A moment in time to discuss and celebrate women's achievements across industries and generations.”
The second photo was of Williams and Biles sitting side by side during a panel discussion. This snap was captioned,
“Uplifting encounters, connections and strengthening the community of AP women.
At this Audemars Piguet event, Serena Williams and Simone Biles were part of a panel titled ‘The Overtime Effect: How Athletes Are Redefining the Playing Field.’ In the discussion, both the sporting stars spoke about their careers, their impact outside of their sport, and their advocacy for issues they care about.
Serena Williams calls Simone Biles ‘incredible'
This isn't the first time Serena Williams and Simone Biles have interacted. The two Americans, legends in their own sport, have often spoken highly of each other. In an interview with Fader, Williams labeled the gymnast ‘incredible,' saying,
“I think all of the women (swimmer Simone Manuel and Simone Biles) are so poised. I really find them so amazing, especially Biles. Her comments, her performance, I feel like she’s 35 years old, mentally. She’s just so incredible. If anything, I wish I could be like her when I was younger.”
Meanwhile, during the 2024 US Open, Biles called Williams the ‘GOAT’ of tennis. In response to a question asking the gymnast about her dream doubles partner, she said,
"Definitely Serena Williams. I mean, she's the GOAT in tennis.”
Serena Williams and Simone Biles are two of the most decorated athletes of all time. Biles’ career as a gymnast has seen her pick up 11 Olympic and 30 World Championships medals so far. Meanwhile, Williams’ career in the courts saw her win 24 singles Grand Slam titles.
