In Pictures: Zheng Qinwen "recharges" by spending time in nature as her parents accompany her in rare appearance after US Open

Chinese tennis star Zheng Qinwen recently enjoyed her time in nature following her participation at the 2024 US Open with a visit to Rissai Valley, a Ritz-Carlton Reserve in Jiuzhaigou. The valley lies on the periphery of the Qinghai-Tibet plateau in the Southwestern Sichuan province of China.

Qinwen rose to popularity after an extraordinary Paris Olympics campaign where she secured the gold medal after defeating Croatia’s Donna Vekić in the finals with a scoreline of 6-2, 6-3. She had earlier stunned the top-seed Iga Swiatek by 6-2, 7-5 in the semi-finals. With this, she became the first Asian to win an Olympic singles title and bagged China’s second-ever tennis gold medal in the history of the Summer Games.

Following her exploits in Paris, Qinwen recently appeared at the 2024 US Open, where she exited the tournament after a quarter-final loss to Aryna Sabalenka by 1-6, 2-6, who eventually went on to win the Grand Slam title. Before the US Open, she participated at the Cincinnati Masters and faced defeat in the Round of 16.

After participating in the US Open, Zheng Qinwen spent her time in nature by exploring the Rissai Valley. She shared the update with her followers on Instagram, stating:

“Nature is the greatest place to recharge”

She took some time off to enjoy the scenic beauty of nature with her parents before she headed for her season in China. On her Instagram handle, two days before, she posted:

“Few days off with family before China season 🫧🌿”

Her parents too made a rare appearance in one of the photos from this post (seventh slide), which included her father Zheng Jianping.

Zheng Qinwen reveals how she spends her leisure time

Zheng Qinwen, who made headlines after advancing to her first Grand Slam final at the Australian Open this year, revealed how she liked to spend her leisure time. In an interview with Sky Sports in February 2024, Qinwen stated:

"Wow, there is a lot of things I like to do. For example - I love to go to walk with my parents, with my family, and I love to read the book especially when I'm in the peace time in the afternoon and also my favorite, I think everybody knows, is to sing a song. Yeah, I love music."

She also talked about an interesting fact about herself in the interview that, initially people get an impression and perceive her as cold. However, once she considers someone a friend, she gradually comes out of her shell.
