Marketa Vondrousova is set to miss the 2024 US Open due to an ongoing injury. The New York Slam is set to get underway from August 26 and will run through September 8.

Vondrousova's 2024 season has been marred by injuries. She suffered a nasty fall during her second-round encounter at the Berlin Open against Anna Kalinskaya and was forced to retire from the match. The fall could have put a major blow to her title defense at Wimbledon 2024 but she recovered in time to participate in the grass court Slam.

However, her campaign at SW19 was short-lived as she was defeated in the first round by Jessica Bouzas Maneiro. The Czech then pulled out of the Paris Olympics 2024 due to a hand injury and has remained out of action since then.

Now, Vondrousova has announced her withdrawal from the final Grand Slam of the season. As a result of the withdrawal, she will also drop out of the top 30 after the US Open, failing to defend quarterfinal points from 2023.

Other WTA stars who are set to miss the action at Flushing Meadows this season are Sorana Cirstea and Zhu Lin. On the other hand, big names such as Naomi Osaka, Bianca Andreescu, and Amanda Anisimova will headline the tournament as they are among the eight players who have been awarded a wildcard.

Marketa Vondrousova was hopeful to be fit in time for the US Open while withdrawing from the Paris Olympics 2024 and expressed her desire to be back on court soon.

In her withdrawal note posted on her Instagram handle, the 25-year-old wrote that she was focusing on being fit for the 2024 Games but lost the race against time and had to pull out.

"I am very sorry, but for health reasons I am not participating in this year's Olympic Games in Paris. I was hoping until the last moment that it could go at least in doubles, but problems with my hand won't let me on the court. I am concentrating now to be fine at the US Open. I will keep my fingers crossed for all the Czech representatives in France from a distance. Hopefully soon on the court," she wrote (translated from Czech).

Marketa Vondrousova's best result at the US Open came last year, where she reached the quarterfinals with wins over Han Na-lae, Martina Trevisan, Ekaterina Alexandrova, and Peyton Stearns before losing to Madison Keys in the quarterfinal.
