Boris Becker has expressed his admiration for the historic feat of LeBron and Bronny James, who could become the first father-son pair to play in the NBA at the same time. Becker called the James duo, who is expected to make their debut together in the 2024-25 NBA season, an "absolutely insane partnership."
The James family made history on June 27 when the Los Angeles Lakers selected LeBron James' son Bronny with the 55th overall pick in the second round of the 2024 NBA Draft.
The 19-year-old guard played one year of college basketball at the University of Southern California, where he averaged 2.8 rebounds, 4.8 points, and 2.1 assists per game. He also recovered from a medical procedure to treat a congenital heart defect but was cleared to return to full basketball activities in late November 2023.
The possibility of LeBron and Bronny playing together in the NBA has been a long-standing dream for the father as he has often said he would love to share the court with his eldest son before he retires. LeBron, 39, will be entering his 22nd season in the league but has not announced his plans for free agency.
Becker, who won six Grand Slam titles, took to his Instagram story to react to the news.
"Absolutely insane partnership," Becker wrote.
Boris Becker reacts to NBA legend Michael Jordan’s tearful tribute to Kobe Bryant
Boris Becker was moved by NBA legend Michael Jordan’s tearful tribute to Kobe Bryant, who died in a helicopter crash in California in 2020 along with his daughter Gianna Bryant.
Jordan spoke at a memorial service about how he and Bryant had a bond like brothers. The 61-year-old said that Bryant would call him at strange times to talk about basketball skills and techniques.
"He used to call me, text me, 11:30, 2:30, 3 o'clock in the morning, talking about post-up moves, footwork, and sometimes, the triangle," Jordan said.
"This kid had passion like you would never know. It's an amazing thing about passion. If you love something, if you have a strong passion for something, you would go to the extreme to try to understand or try to get it," he added.
The NBA legend also said that he wanted to be his “best big brother” as he got to know him better.
"What Kobe Bryant was to me was the inspiration that someone truly cared about the way either I played the game or the way that he wanted to play the game. He wanted to be the best basketball player that he could be. And as I got to know him, I wanted to be the best big brother that I could be," he said.
Becker expressed his emotions after listening to Jordan’s sincere words about Bryant on Instagram.
"The Goat MJ," Becker wrote.
Boris Becker had coached top ATP players like Novak Djokovic (2013-16) and Holger Rune (2023-24).
