Andy Murray's mother Judy seemed to have taken a dig at Emma Raducanu in her initial reaction to the latter withdrawing from the mixed doubles event at Wimbledon. Raducanu was asked about the reaction from Judy during a press conference and fans were unhappy with the tennis media for bringing it up.

Andy Murray, who withdrew from the singles event and received an emotional farewell after losing in the men's doubles event with his brother Jamie, was scheduled to play for the last time at Wimbledon in the mixed doubles event with Raducanu on July 6.

The 21-year-old, however, pulled out of the event citing a stiff wrist. She has undergone wrist problems in the past and prioritized her singles fourth-round match which was scheduled for the next day (July 7).

Initially, Judy Murray reacted to the news by commenting on an X (formerly Twitter) post by presenter Marcus Buckland. She seemingly took a dig at the former US Open champion by writing:

"Yes, astonishing."

However, Judy defended herself later and claimed that she was sarcastic in her response. She also mentioned that the scheduling, which Emma Raducanu had already described as 'not ideal', may have affected the decision.

After the 21-year-old was defeated in her fourth-round clash against Lulu Sun, she was asked about Judy Murray's initial reaction. Raducanu said that she believes Judy did not mean what she said.

Fans were unhappy that the media asked such a question in the press conference.

"The media truly are messy... That question did not have to be asked at all," one fan wrote.
"The media loves to stir it up but what a good response from Emma!" another fan wrote.
"The press is always trying to start stuff. Just let it go. This young woman is 21 and she’s already has one GS. That an accomplishment of a lifetime. Instead of being grateful these Brits just keep going for blood. So disappointing," a third fan wrote.

Here are some fan reactions criticizing the media:

"Well handled. Shame it was all so negative...but that's a class way to deal with it," one fan commented.
"I think I might have replied by saying ' I'm surprised you've even asked that question' but appearances have to be maintained otherwise the tables would turn on her...the press are awful sometimes," another fan wrote.

"I hate the media. Crap stirring as usual," a fan opined.

"Yesterday morning just woke up with stiffness. I have to prioritize myself, my singles and my body. I think it was the right decision. I stand by the decision. It was a tough decision because it’s something that I’ve always wanted to do," Emma Raducanu said.

Raducanu lamented the decision and claimed that she did not want to take away Murray's final match at Wimbledon. However, she believes many other players would have done the same.
