Bianca Andreescu is likely to miss the Australian Open for the second year in a row, according to Canadian tennis journalist Stephanie Myles. Andreescu has struggled with injuries since her maiden Grand Slam triumph in 2019 and failed to play a full season.

Andreescu was set to begin her 2025 season at the ASB Classic in Auckland, returning to the tournament for the first time in five years. However, Tournament Director Nicolas Lamperin announced this week that the Canadian has withdrawn from the WTA 250 tournament for "personal reasons."

The ASB Classic withdrawal also cast doubts on Andreescu's participation in the 2025 Australian Open. The 24-year-old has only played in Melbourne twice in the last five years and withdrew from the tournament last year due to an injury. Canadian tennis journalist Stephanie Myles cleared the air about Andreescu's participation in the 2025 Australian Open.

In a post on X(formerly Twitter), Myles said Andreescu will not be playing at the 2025 Australian Open. Myles wrote:

"This is not, as they say, hot news. (And I can confirm she's not in doubt for the AO; she's not playing."

Bianca Andreescu would have needed to go through the qualifying route to make it into the main draw of the 2025 Australian Open. She is currently ranked World No. 132.

Bianca Andreescu has had abysmal luck with injuries over the last five years. She was out of action from late August 2023 to May 2024 after enduring a back injury and returned to the tour at the 2024 French Open via a protected ranking. The Canadian lost to eventual runners-up Jasmine Paolini in the third round.

At the Libema Open, her second tournament since returning, Andreescu reached her first WTA Tour final in two years. However, she had to settle for the runner-up trophy against Liudmila Samsonova. This was followed by a first-round exit at Bad Homburg and a third-round finish at Wimbledon.

After a second-round exit at the Paris Olympics, Andreescu suffered four straight defeats. She ended her losing streak at the Japan Open, where she reached the quarterfinals. The former World No. 4 bettered Mei Yamaguchi and Beatriz Haddad Maia before losing to Katie Boulter in Tokyo.

In all, the Canadian won 11 matches in 2024 and ended the year as World No. 132, her lowest year-end ranking since 2018.
