The Australian Open 2025 will get underway from January 12, and Carlos Alcaraz will be one of the top names participating. He will be seeded third, after Jannik Sinner and Alexander Zverev. While most of his contemporaries kicked off the new season by competing in either the United Cup or the ATP 250 events in Brisbane or Hong Kong, the Spaniard opted not to do the same.

However, Alcaraz does have a busy week lined up leading up to the season's first Major. For its 120th anniversary, the Australian Open has a bunch of exciting events, dubbed as the "Opening Week", lined up to drum up excitement for the tournament. Various exhibition matches in different formats will be held from January 7-11.

Alcaraz will take on a couple of home favorites during the week. He will first go up against Alex de Minaur on Wednesday (January 8) and will next face Alexei Popyrin on Friday (January 10). He will play these two matches for sure and could sign up for more events as well.

Novak Djokovic, Aryna Sabalenka, and Coco Gauff are some of the other notable names who will partake in the Opening Week extravaganza. The main draw ceremony will take place on Thursday, January 9, where Alcaraz and others will learn their fates.

Carlos Alcaraz captured his maiden Major title at the US Open 2022 and ascended to the top of the rankings as well. He claimed his second Grand Slam title at Wimbledon the following year with a win over Novak Djokovic in the final, who was the four-time defending champion.

After not winning any titles on clay in the lead-up to the French Open 2024, albeit due to an injury, not many expected Alcaraz to perform well at the clay court Major. However, being the generational talent that he is, the young Spaniard defied expectations and won the tournament, his third Major triumph.

Alcaraz became the youngest man to win a Major title on all three surfaces. He later defended his Wimbledon title as well to up his Grand Slam count to four. Having won the remaining three Majors over the years, he is on the cusp of making history at this year's Australian Open.

Should the 21-year-old Alcaraz go all the way in Melbourne this year, he will become the youngest man in the Open Era to complete a Career Grand Slam. Rafael Nadal is the current record holder for the same and achieved the feat at the age of 24 years with his triumph at the US Open 2010.

Alcaraz has won a different Major every year since 2022. If the pattern continues, then he is due to win the Australian Open this year. However, he has a 7-3 record at the tournament and advanced to the quarterfinals for the first time last year. While he has a lot of work to do if he wants to emerge victorious here, he's not the one to shy away from a challenge.
