Romanian tennis player Andreea Prisacariu recently slammed the Zendaya starrer 'Challengers' movie.
Prisacariu is currently ranked World No. 401 and previously held a career-high ranking of World No. 304. She has won five titles on the ITF circuit.
'Challengers' stars Zendaya, Josh O'Connor, and Mike Faist in lead roles and released in theaters on April 26, 2024.
The story revolves around Zendaya's character Tashi Donaldson who becomes a coach for her husband, Art Donaldson, portrayed by Mike Faist, after her own career derailed due to an injury. The plot gets complicated due to the introduction of Josh O'Connor's character Patrick Zweig, who had a complicated past with both Tashi and Art. The film focuses on the high-stakes battle between Art and Patrick in the final of a Challenger tournament.
The film drew a negative review from Romanian tennis star Andreea Prisacariu. She wrote on X (formerly Twitter):
"Literally watching that movie "Challengers" and it's so so bad my eyes hurt. Idk why people outside from tennis create a tennis movie🤣🤣🤣It's just bad."
Andreea Prisacariu on tennis-centric movie 'Challengers' - "Waste of almost 3h of my life"
Andreea Prisacariu did not mince her words while talking about 'Challengers'. She went on to say that she was horrified and it was a waste of her time.
"I am horrified🤣🤣🤣Waste of almost 3h of my life," she wrote in a tweet.
A fan brought forth the reality of today's film trends, mentioning that people will watch a movie that is over-exaggerated and hyped.
"Nowadays movies all about hype and over-exaggeration of emotion and feeling. Plus just put some actor in trend. People will gladly consume it," a fan commented.
The Romanian agreed with the fan.
"U damn right," Prisacariu replied.
Another fan was rather sad to hear the negative review and questioned what was bad about the movie.
"Oh no that sucks to hear! He’s a great director and it’s getting rave reviews… is it bad because of the way it’s representing life on the tennis circuit or something else?" another fan questioned.
Prisacariu replied that the shots were not good.
"Yep, kinda. Plus the shots obviously are not looking good. And the mentality is insanely not true," Prisacariu replied.
