Jannik Sinner sent a sweet message to the young fan who escorted him to the court for his quarter-finals match against Stan Wawrinka at the ABN AMRO Open in Rotterdam.
Sinner defeated top seed Stefanos Tsitsipas in commanding fashion to book his quarterfinals spot at the tournament. The Italian did not give away a single break point opportunity during the match and got the better of the Greek in straight sets, 6-4, 6-3.
For his quarterfinal match against three-time Grand Slam champion Stan Wawrinka, the World No. 14 was being escorted to the court by a young fan. The fan, holding the Italian's hand, made the most of the moment as he waved to the crowd and handed out high-fives with a big smile on his face.
"Loving every second," TennisTV captioned the clip on Instagram.
Jannik Sinner shared the clip to his social media and told the fan to have his moment in the spotlight.
"It's your time kid," the World No. 14 wrote on Instagram.
Sinner triumphed over Stan Wawrinka in straight sets, 6-1, 6-3.
Jannik Sinner will face Tallon Griekspoor in the semi-finals of the ABN AMRO Open
Jannik Sinner will now take on Tallon Griekspoor in the semi-finals of the tournament. Griekspoor defeated Mikael Ymer, Alexander Zverev and Gjis Brouwer on his way to the semi-finals in Rotterdam.
During the post-match interview, Sinner expressed his happiness with his current form and said that he was glad to have won against Wawrinka, which is never an easy task.
“I just try to play every match with a high intensity, try to play my game, try to adapt myself. The first round match here was very important for me, then I try to keep going, to get more rhythm. Today I think it was also a good match. It’s never easy playing against him, so I’m very happy," The Italian said.
The Italian was satisfied with the level of tennis he displayed in the match and was looking forward to his next match in the tournament.
“It was for sure a tough match. We know each other quite well, we practise a lot together… I’m very happy to be in the next round. I tried to push him a lot, he defended very well. [Overall] I think it was a good performance today,” Sinner commented.
Jannik Sinner won his seventh ATP tour title at the Open Sud de France earlier this week when he defeated Maxime Cressy in the final. He will be hoping to repeat the same success in Rotterdam and make his way back into the top 10 of the ATP rankings.
