Carlos Alcaraz's agent, Albert Molina, has opened up about their shared fears regarding the Spaniard being caught in a controversy and having his reputation tarnished. These worries stem from the possibility of the 21-year-old being recorded out of context while on vacation.
Alcaraz recently won his third Grand Slam title at the 2024 French Open, narrowly edging past Alexander Zverev 6-3, 2-6, 5-7, 6-1, 6-2 in the final. Following his victory, the Spaniard opted to vacation in Ibiza to unwind before commencing his grasscourt season with a title defense at the Queen's Club Championships in London.
In an interview with El Partidazo de COPE, Albert Molina was jokingly asked whether Carlos Alcaraz's physiotherapist had tagged along on the World No. 2's trip.
However, Molina revealed that Alcaraz only wanted the company of his friends on the vacation. Expressing concern about the Spaniard being unsupervised, Molina revealed that he was "scared" of somebody taking advantage of the 21-year-old's "noble" personality.
"He didn't want anyone. It scares me personally, but not because of Carlos. Because I know that the problem is that Carlos is very noble, it is not because of Carlos but because of the people he may have by his side and not because of his friends because they are good people," Carlos Alcaraz's agent said (Translated from Spanish).
Molina emphasized the dangers of the digital age, pointing out that anybody with a phone could capture something that may be taken out of context and used to ruin the World No. 2's reputation. He also revealed that Carlos Alcaraz himself is "afraid" of being embroiled in such a controversy.
"But hey, when you expose yourself so much outside, there are always people with a phone who can record something that may be taken out of context or may not be reality as it is," he said.
"Because in the end a photo or a 5 second video can convey things to you that are not real, lies. He is afraid that this will happen to him that it could be nailed to him at night in any situation of this type," he added.
Carlos Alcaraz's agent reveals how he approached the Spaniard's father to sign him at the age of 12
During the same interview, Albert Molina revealed that he began following Carlos Alcaraz closely when the Spaniard was just 12 years old, recalling that he was astonished by his talent.
"The first time I saw him play I was 13 years old. At 11 I had already heard about him, I had seen some games, but at 12 I followed him more. I traveled to different cities in Spain where the tournaments were held and he began to surprise me," he said.
Molina disclosed that he had approached the World No. 2's father Carlos Sr. and expressed his interest in signing his young son. Despite being taken aback by Molina's desire to represent his son at just 12 years of age, the three-time Grand Slam champion's father was convinced by his pitch.
"I started talking to Carlos Sr. because Carlitos was a child. I began to approach him, to tell him that his son had a lot of talent and one of the things I would like would be to start working with him," he said.
"At first, he had doubts, he was surprised to have a representative for his son at 12 years old... But in the end, the father was convinced by the project," he added.
Following his trip to Ibiza, Carlos Alcaraz will commence his preparations for his Wimbledon title defense at the Queen's Club Championships, set to begin on June 17.
