Fans have reacted to a comparison between Novak Djokovic announcing Andy Murray as his new coach and Jannik Sinner posting about Italy qualifying for the Davis Cup final. Both updates were made during a similar period.
Not long after announcing his withdrawal from the ATP Finals, Djokovic appointed Andy Murray as his new coach. Shortly after, Italy qualified for the Davis Cup Finals and Jannik Sinner took to social media to post about it.
One individual compared the updates from both Djokovic and Sinner and pointed out the number of views in order to highlight the Serb's popularity.
Several fans reacted to the comparison, with one stating that Jannik Sinner lacked the charisma that the Serb had.
"Even aside from the scandal he's embroiled in, he just doesn't have the charisma that Novak or even Carlos has. I've always found him bland by comparison," one fan said.
Another fan called Sinner boring:
"Sinner bores me so much," the fan stated.
One fan stated that the Serb's supporters were starting "popularity beefs".
"Djokovic fans starting popularity beefs now," the fan said.
Here are some more fan reactions:
"Nice rage bait, i can’t wait when you cry again in Australian Open. Jannik will dogwalk your idol, just like he did last 4 times or so," one fan said.
"What a clever comparison between a Top Champion who is famous since more than 20 years and a new Champion who is known only since 3 years. Bravo, good effort" a fan commented.
"The only wins your idol will ever achieve against Jannik from now on. LOL," another fan said.
Jannik Sinner was unaware of Novak Djokovic becoming Andy Murray's coach
Tennis Insider Jose Morgado claimed that Jannik Sinner did not have any idea regarding Murray being appointed Djokovic's coach.
"Sinner had no idea about the Murray-Djokovic partnership and didn’t wanna answer about that," the journalist wrote.
Jannik Sinner eventually helped Italy win the Davis Cup for the second straight year as they beat Netherlands 2-0 in the final. He beat Tallon Griekspoor 7-6(2), 6-2 to seal his nation's win, with Matteo Berrettini having previously beaten Botic van de Zandschulp 6-4, 6-2. The World No. 1 previously beat Sebastian Baez and Alex de Minaur.
Sinner faced Djokovic twice in 2024, beating him on both occasions. The Italian defeated the Serb at the Australian Open semifinals before getting the better of him in the final of the Shanghai Masters. He is currently tied 4-4 in the head-to-head against the 24-time Grand Slam champion.
