Jannik Sinner defeated Jack Draper in straight sets on Friday, September 6, to reach his first ever final at the US Open. With this, he joined Rafael Nadal, Roger Federer, Novak Djokovic, and Andy Murray as only the fifth player since 2001 to claim more than 22 Grand Slam match wins in a single season, outdoing Spain's Carlos Alcaraz in this statistic.

Sinner’s campaign in New York got off to a wonderful start, as he downed home players Mackenzie McDonald and Alex Michelsen in his first two rounds at the Arthur Ashe Stadium. The Italian then got the better of Christopher O'Connell in his third round match, before taking down 14th seed Tommy Paul in R4.

The quarterfinals saw Jannik Sinner square off against World No.5 Daniil Medvedev. In a match lasting more than 2 hours and 30 minutes, the 23-year-old got the better of his opponent 6-2, 1-6, 6-1, 6-4.

With this, the reigning Australian Open champion had become only the fourth active player to reach the semifinals of all Grand Slams, a feat Carlos Alcaraz is yet to achieve despite his four Grand Slam wins. The other three players to achieve this are Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal, and Marin Cilic.

Now, after his semifinals victory over Jack Draper in New York, Sinner has outdone his Spanish rival to another achievement, clinching more than 22 Grand Slam wins in a single season.

The US Open semifinals between Jannik Sinner and Jack Draper was a chaotic match to say the least. The former injured his wrist while playing, even as the latter threw up thrice on court during their clash. As he walked away from the chaos with a win, the Italian stated he was happy at having made it through to the finals, telling media post the match,

"Me and Jack know each other very well. We are friends off the court. It was a very physical match as we see and I just tried to stay there mentally. He is so tough to beat and it is a very special occasion. I am happy to be in the final here," Sinner said.

Jannik Sinner will next take on Taylor Fritz in the US Open final. Fritz reached his maiden Grand Slam title clash after beating Frances Tiafoe 4-6, 7-5, 4-6, 6-4, 6-1. The two will lock horns for the third time, with their head-to-head currently tied at 1-1.
