The 2024 Nitto ATP Finals' official photoshoot took place recently, with all the participating players, including World No. 1 Jannik Sinner and World No. 3 Carlos Alcaraz, donning formal attires for the occasion. However, the players' respective looks did not go down well with several fans who turned critical towards the ATP.
Sinner and Alcaraz will be vying for the prestigious year-end title alongside Alexander Zverev, Daniil Medvedev, Taylor Fritz, Casper Ruud, Alex de Minaur and Andrey Rublev. The final draw would have featured Novak Djokovic instead of Rublev, but the Serb pulled out from the event citing an ongoing injury.
All the players recently arrived in Turin, Italy, to begin their preparations, and duly took part in the official photoshoot. While Sinner, Alcaraz, Zverev and Medvedev showed up in black suits and trousers, Fritz, Ruud, de Minaur and Rublev sported brown suits and trousers. All of them paired their suits and trousers with white shirts.
However, fans were not impressed upon taking notice of the players' respective looks. Several of them turned to blatant ridicule.
"Why'd Jannik put his hands in his pockets and unbutton his jacket for this..he looks so bad," a fan wrote.
"They should’ve given Carlos a milk crate or something to stand on idk," commented another fan.
"This is so boring," another chimed in.
Many others resonated these feelings, with a few expressing their unhappiness over the 2024 Nitto ATP Finals lineup.
"I don’t know how to put this less bluntly, the ATP needs to radically reimagine its relationship to fashion and marketing," wrote one fan.
"Why these motherf**kers dressed like they’re at @AlexZverev‘s court case?" one asked, referring to Alexander Zverev's trial in a Berlin court over domestic violence allegations.
"The difference in charisma and presence please," added another, with an official picture from the WTA Finals photoshoot for comparison.
"Sorry not sorry but this is the worst ATP Finals ever lol," yet another fan weighed in.
On paper, World No. 1 Sinner is the favorite to win the year-end event.
Jannik Sinner to start Nitto ATP Finals 2024 campaign with Round Robin phase encounter against Alex de Minaur
Jannik Sinner has won a tour-leading seven titles this year, including the Australian Open and the US Open. With an astonishing 65-6 win-loss record so far, the Italian looks in pole position to clinch the Nitto ATP Finals title. The World No. 1 narrowly missed out on the title last year, after he lost to Novak Djokovic in the final.
Sinner is set to get his campaign in Turin started with a round-robin match against Alex de Minaur. The Italian has a 7-0 head-to-head lead over the Australian, who recently reached the quarterfinals of the Paris Masters.
The only players in this year's edition of the Nitto ATP Finals to have won the even before are Alexander Zverev, who recently became the new World No. 2 after his title triumph at the Rolex Paris Masters, and Daniil Medvedev.
