Liam Broady was among the first tennis players to publicly comment on Jannik Sinner's failed drug tests when the results were released. The British player has continued to express his views on the matter, stating his disapproval of the outcome. However, some fans have accused Broady of seeking attention, claiming that his comments are motivated by personal gain rather than genuine concern.
A few days ago, it was announced that Sinner had failed two drug tests in March. An independent tribunal investigated the matter and found the World No. 1 innocent. Soon after the announcement, Broady claimed it was 'not right'. He accused the tennis authorities of having double standards in treating players.
Recently, Sinner was interviewed by ESPN, where he talked about how he did not receive any preferential treatment, following which he received a lot of criticism. Broady mocked the interview's "presidential sit-down" nature, writing:
"Not treated differently from other players but gets curated, presidential sit down interviews with ESPN to maintain image 😂. Where’s this energy for everybody else? Never seen anything like this."
Fans slammed Broady because they thought his remarks were an attention-seeking tactic.
"Bro, at this point you are just making fun of yourself. Probably because you need some attention because clearly you can’t get it from your tennis results," one fan wrote.
"Liam if you put this effort trying to win some matches instead of talking about inexistent conspiracy theories maybe you would be on Espn too and much higher in the ranking," another fan wrote.
"Today Liam Brody finds out that the world number 1 has the eyes of all the media on him and everyone wants to interview him," a third fan wrote.
"Liam Broady has an opinion? Meanwhile, Jannik Sinner is richer, intellectually superior, better at his job. You name it," another fan wrote.
However, some fans agreed with Broady's views.
"Exactly. It’s a disgrace," one fan wrote.
"Congratulations Liam, I'm Italian myself and a fan of Jannik Sinner, but you're right. He cheated and he must pay. Sport must be clean," another fan wrote.
"I think Jannik Sinner's absolutely brilliant... and has always been very humble" - Liam Broady
Liam Broady appeared to have become aware of the criticism he was receiving for his comments about Jannik Sinner. The British player recently took to X to clarify that he had no ill will towards the Italian. He praised the World No. 1 and claimed that he had been a fan since his Challenger days.
"Crazy thing is some on here think I hate Sinner. I think he’s absolutely brilliant. Fantastic tennis player and has always been very humble. Been a huge fan of his since his challenger days which is a lot longer than a lot of the offended people in my mentions have supported," Liam Broady wrote on X.
Currently, Broady is preparing to participate in the Rafa Nadal Open in Spain. it is a Challenger event named after the Spanish tennis icon and is played at his academy. Meanwhile, Sinner will be playing at the final Major of the year, the 2024 US Open, as the top seed.
