Jannik Sinner has joined Andre Agassi, Roger Federer, and Novak Djokovic in an extraordinary Grand Slam feat. The Italian became only the fourth man to win 15 consecutive hardcourt Major matches after his first-round triumph at the 2025 Australian Open on Monday, January 13.

Sinner kicked off his Australian Open title defense with a hard-fought victory over Chile's Nicolas Jarry. The World No. 1 faced a stern challenge from Jarry, who lived up to his reputation and pushed Sinner to the limit in the first two sets. Eventually, Sinner secured his 15th consecutive win on hardcourts in Grand Slam events.

Having won the 2024 Australian Open and US Open, the World No. 1 had 14 straight hardcourt victories in Majors. With the win over Jarry marking his 15th, this accomplishment places him alongside tennis legends Agassi, Federer, and Djokovic as one of the few players to achieve such a feat this century. He was informed about his achievement during his post-match press conference.

“It’s amazing to be next to these names. I cannot compare myself with these players, no? They have done so, so many things. I'm just trying to make my own little story. Happy about that. I like hard courts. I like these conditions. Especially when it's not that hot like today, it's very nice to play. Yeah, so happy how I'm trying to keep going as much as I can," Jannik Sinner said.

Known for his exceptional composure in tiebreakers, Jannik Sinner showcased his mental fortitude by clinching both the opening sets in tight tiebreaks—7-6(2), 7-6(5). Having edged out the close battles, the defending champion shifted gears in the third set and sealed the match with a commanding 6-1 finish.

Jannik Sinner has expressed his happiness at playing in Melbourne multiple times. Following his win over Nicolas Jarry in the first round of the Australian Open, during a post-match interview, he praised the crowd and talked about the courts (via ATP Tour):

"The crowd and the fans, they give me so much support and it's very nice to be back here. Obviously, I also like the hard courts here. But let's see, every year is different, every day is different. We'll try to improve obviously, I have a couple of things that I can surely do better, but first official match of the year for me, so I'm very happy."

Sinner will face Australian wildcard Tristan Schoolkate in the second round.
