World No. 6 Jessica Pegula reacted to the beautiful camaraderie shared by Mirra Andreeva and Diana Shnaider. The young Russian pair are playing doubles together at the Australian Open and have reached the semifinals.
In a video on social media on January 22, the beautiful relationship between Andreeva and Shanider was on show in a candid interview. Shnaider related their off-court bond and said it helped while playing tennis together as they were well aware of each other's playstyles.
"We have such a good connection like on and off the court..it's so much easier to play, I know what she's gonna do on court and she knows what I'm going to do," Shnaider said during an interview (via X, formerly Twitter).
Mirra Andreeva echoed similar thoughts while playing doubles with Shnaider. She confessed that she goes into her singles matches with intense focus, whereas playing doubles with her partner is more of a fun activity rather than a serious competition play.
"When I play singles I try to not to look anywhere like this..I'm focusing but there in doubles I'm just having fun and we talk about everything possible," Andreeva added, highlighting their bond.
Reacting to their comments, US Open runner-up Jessica Pegula made her feelings known about the rapport that Mirra and Shnaider shared.
"Ok Adorable," Pegula wrote, reacting to the video.
The Russian duo have reached the semifinals of the women's doubles at the Australian Open and will take on the top-seeded pair of Katerina Siniakova and Taylor Townsend on Friday, January 24.
Mirra Andreeva and Diana Shnaider have formed a formidable doubles team in the last year
Mirra Andreeva and Diana Shnaider are future stars of the WTA Tour and are currently ranked within the Top 20 in the world. While Andreeva won her maiden singles title last year, Shnaider was in top form, winning four titles. However, the duo's decision to play doubles together has seen them become a proficient doubles team on the Tour.
The duo attracted attention as they won the doubles silver medal at the Paris Olympics, losing to the Italian pair of Sara Errani and Jasmine Paolini in the final. However, the two started off the 2025 season with a bang, winning the Brisbane International after defeating Priscilla Hon and Anna Kalinskaya in the final.
En route to their semifinal in Melbourne Major, the Andreeva-Shnaider duo have already upset the fourth-seeded pair of Jasmine Paolini and Sara Errani. Despite being unseeded, the Russian pair look to be in a promising position to clinch their maiden Major title in Melbourne.
